Another Democrat switches parties to GOP

Democrats in the Louisiana House have lost another member, the second party switch in less than a month amid a yearslong decline in Democratic electoral fortunes.

State Rep. Jeremy LaCombe, a Democrat who was elected in 2019 to District 18, spanning parts of Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge parishes, said Monday he is switching his party affiliation to Republican.

Republicans in the state House recently gained a supermajority – a crucial threshold for overriding vetoes and passing tax measures – because another Democrat, Rep. Francis Thompson of Delhi, switched to the GOP. In that case, the state GOP held a press event touting the news.

When anyone switches parties they should have to resign and run as a candidate of the party to which the candidate has switched. They should also behave to repay all monies spent by the party to elect the candidate.

So, you vote straight party line? Last I knew, the name of the candidate was on the ballot. Many states make no mention of the party on the ballot.

Agree 100 percent.

Switching after voters and donors and supporters and parties invested time and money and energy into you and your campaign is at best utterly bad faith if not outright fraud.

Eh.. not feeling sympathetic towards the major political party donors in any circumstances. They are the biggest threat to American Democracy by far.

The thing is, the ones switching from D to R were always really “D” anyway.

However, they aren’t the only ones switching.

Joe is definitely going to run as a D in the next election. Maybe for a House, Senate, or Governor.

Which states don’t mention the party on the general election ballot?

Remember: Trump used to be a Dem then switched to R when he knew that Dem would never kowtow to him.

The latest defection is...a former Republican who just became a Democrat. Joe Walsh is a former Republican Congressman, former Republican candidate for President, and former TEA Party champion. Worth a read if you have time.

Interesting. He’s got it right because final conservation is now a democratic hallmark. I think the tent is large because you’ll have to square that with the more progressive side. But, Dems just voted against ballooning the defection by $4T while the GOP thinks it’s positively fine and reasonable.

Your post gives a clue as to why this may be happening.
When you demonize the opponent with false smears and hateful rhetoric and all the while embrace absolutely nutty positions on issues (abortion on demand with no restrictions, allowing biological males to compete against women, restricting speech, defunding the police, etc.), expect reasonable people to run away from you. Now, you might say that ALL Democrats don't embrace the positions listed - but how many Democrats have spoken out against them?

Do you support everything Maga has done? If not, did you speak out against it? Abortion: Do you not believe women are capable of making medical decisions? Why is it any of your business? When you say 'no restrictions' I think that you are missing the point. The majority of abortions are in the first trimester. However, there are times when it is medically necessary. Would you rather the woman die? Give us better health care so women can prevent unwanted pregnancies.

I am against biological males in women sports especially if the men went through puberty. But what about those who did not?

Restricting speech. you have to give proof. So far I've only seen Maga
