Another Democrat switches parties to GOP

Republican Party is the party of insurrectionist and traitors. The party is happy to take on more who think the same way.

You must be watching fox if you really believe these southern Jim Crow pols were Dems. That’s an outright boldface lie.

Not sure if sarcasm, but yes, after the Democrats became the party pushing through civil rights legislation tons of white conservatives left the party and became Republicans. This is pretty basic recent history. Ronald Reagan is on that list, along with Strom Thurmond, Richard Shelby, Thad Cochran, Jesse Helms, John Connally, Elizabeth Dole, Trent Lott, Roy Moore and Phil Gramm - just a few of the more prominent names on that list.

Guess which party had a larger majority opposed to the Civil Rights Act of 1964?

The original House version:[1]

Democratic Party: 152–96 (61–39%)
Republican Party: 138–34 (80–20%)

Cloture in the Senate:[35]

Democratic Party: 44–23 (66–34%)
Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%)

The Senate version:[2]

Democratic Party: 46–21 (69–31%)
Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%)

The Senate version, voted on by the House:[3]

Democratic Party: 153–91 (63–37%)
Republican Party: 136–35 (80–20%)

Yes we know. Those southern segregationist Democrats began to leave the party and switched to Republican Party over the next decade.

Storm Thurmond - remember him? Was originally a Democrat. Realized the party was not making room for racists like himself anymore but the Republicans opened their arms to embrace him. Know what year he switched? 1964.

People seem to forget the actual Klansman was a member of the Democratic party

Yes, at one point David Duke was a Democrat. He’s a Republican now.

Ahhh you mean Byrd - the one who all the way back in the 1950s denounced the KKK, said it was the worst mistake he ever made in his life, and then went on to support major civil rights legislation of the 1960s and 1970s, and became a major friend and ally to the NAACP?

We didn't forget. YOU forgot the rest of the story.

Can’t trust Southern white people. They don’t have beliefs, only self interests.

The GOP was the party of Lincoln.

Democrat John F Kennedy was generally a civil rights proponent, and after his death, LBJ pushed the Civil Rights Amendment through the Senate and signed it. In response, southern racists defected from the Democrats over the ensuing 25 years resulting in a major shift between the two parties. Take a look at "the southern strategy" to learn more.

Yes, before the southern strategy and the major shift in the southern, racist block from the Dems to the GOP.

Abe Lincoln would be a democrat today.

Actually, every president but Trump would be a democrat today, alas.

You also seem to forget that people like David Duke, the head of the KKK today, is a republican.

The republicans may not be racists, but the racists all seem to be republicans, and the GOP is just fine embracing their vote and policies.

What part of "the unrepentant racists abandoned the Democratic Party after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed" do you idiots not understand?

Not so much. The party switchers understand that the Republican Party has achieved managed democracy. You can say people are furious about abortion and shootings and whatever, but it doesn’t matter if they don’t get to vote. Republican judges, money, and just strategic and tactical brilliance have outflanked the Dems at every turn.

When one side literally has the guns, the ammunition and the money, it doesn’t matter how many people they have on their side. They just need enough foot soldiers to use those guns. And Donald Trump has given us those foot soldiers.

The smart play is to become a Republican, and get on record now.
