Left bowl with egg salad in it out on counter a month. Wash or toss?

Anonymous
I left a large pyrex powl with the remnants of egg salad in it out on my kitchen counter for a month (don't ask). It's been on the counter covered in plastic wrap. I want to do something about it today. Do I wash it or toss the bowl? It's a nice bowl but I'm worried about unleashing salmonella or some horrible food poisoning bacteria if I wash it and put it in my dishwasher. This was very bad to procratinate on it so long. I won't do that again!

What would you do?

Ew, ew, ew. Even so, I would put it through the dishwasher, then spray it with bleach and let it stand, then wash it again. I would keep the bowl.

Believe me, I dont' want to ask! If you have a dishwasher, I'd soak it first with liquid detergent and hot water. Then wash in the dishwasher. If you don't have a dishwasher, then wash by hand several times. I don't think Pyrex (glass) will harbor anything. If it had been plastic, I'd have tossed.

Yuck, no Pyrex $20 bowl is worth that. Toss it. Definitely.

Worth what, exactly? The risk of coming down with Salmonella?

Empty odoriferous remnants in trash.
Wash bowl by (gloved) hand in your empty sink without splashing drying dishware nearby or other sundries.
Hot water and detergent are perfectly adequate to eliminate bacteria.
Clean counter top/faucet afterward if you are really paranoid.

You are a lazy ass.

Put on some rubber gloves and clean it with some bleach, then clean the bowl. Pyrex is made from the same stuff as lab-grade chemical glassware, it will be fine.

This. Hard surfaces are impermeable.

Cleaning month old egg salad out of a bowl. The very thought of it makes me want to throw up, YMMV.

Didn't you notice the foul reek coming from the general direction of the bowl? I thought I was bad. The only thing I can think of is maybe you were on vacation and forgot to empty it out and wash it before you left.

Sounds like something on Hoarders.

I'm going to guess that your clearning standards and those of anyone who would leave egg salad on a counter for a month (unless illness, death in the family, unexpected travel delay, etc) are vastly different!

The professional organizers on Hoarders would want you to toss the bowl...
