| My BIL is hard to buy for. He is a big meat eater/grill jockey so I was thinking of sending him a gift pack from Omaha Steaks for his birthday. He lives out of state. Anyone ever had them before? How do they taste? |
| They're solidly fine. I've had better in steak restaurants (Peter Luger), but it's a totally good gift. |
| We bought a dozen petit filets and they were pretty good. My DH is a food snob and even he liked them. |
| Delish. A good gift. |
| Saw a living social deal today. |
| Op here. Thanks all! |
| they have a fillet and lobster (Caribbean) combo that we got from some friends as a wedding present and it was very yummy. I think it's a great gift! |
| I thought it was ordinary. The burgers are sub-par. And the "free" knives are junk. |
|
They are total crap. If you want to give him a gift he will never stop thanking you for send him some steaks from Bryan Flannery - pricey but completely worth it. If you don't know what to buy, give him a call and he will help you.
http://www.bryansfinefoods.com/ No relation but just a very satisfied customer. |
They want $110 for a gift box with 2 steaks. 2! Am I missing something? What can possibly justify spending $55 on a piece of meat that isn't even cooked for you? |
| 110$ better be Kobe beef |
| I found Omaha steaks to be "ehh". Similar to what I would get at Giant in the case. |
Nope, grain fed, Midwestern steaks. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they're tasty, but $110? |
| THey are fine, not great. I like thicker steaks; Omaha was probably an inch thick. Good gift I guess. |
I posted the Flannery link and I don't disagree that his steaks are pricey. Let's be real, we are lucky to be disputing whether steaks are worth spending that much $$$. However, they are that good...for a splurge or great gift. I have been fortunate to try many of the top-end mail order steaks - like Lobels and Allan Brothers - and Bryan's are better and less expensive. He selects and butcher's each steer - so you pay for his selectivity and aging. In fact, you will be hard pressed to find a better steak anywhere, whether it comes from a top-end DC or NY steakhouse or local butcher. So again, if you have not tried it, don't knock it. Yes they are expensive but relatively, it's an affordable best for people who can afford to buy mail-order steaks. Maybe we can't buy the best house or best car, or best..... but for the price of two DC red light speeding camera tickets, you can have the best steak in the US. Omaha steaks are still crap. |
