Anyone ever eaten Omaha Steaks?

As someone who has eaten really low quality beef, Omaha Steaks are Ok. I would never say they are crap but they aren't "top shelf" either. PP above is a raging food snob. If you are giving them to someone like PP, you may want to try something else.

BTW, due to the drought we should be seeing lower beef prices soon.

Exactly. Omaha Steaks is perfectly fine. Is it premium steak house quality, no. But for the price it's good stuff. And great to have in the freezer for week day or easy weekend meals. Sheesh, DCUMers are so snobby it's ridiculous. If it's not THE BEST then it's crap.

My DH and I think that Kansas City Steaks are better quality than Omaha, and not that much more expensive.

I agree that anything out of Kansas City is way better then Ohmaha Steaks. I've ordered from McGonigle's butcher shop when I wanted a taste of home. They are a small family business and the steaks were of excellent quality and very thick. www.mcgonigles.com

Not sure why you think beef prices will be lower. Grain has gotten more expensive since the grass fed steers don't have anything to eat. Grain is going to be expensive since crops are being wiped out.

If it is more expensive to raise the meat, that means prices will be higher, not lower. (this also goes for milk, eggs, and any corn or wheat products)

They are slaughtering the cattle because they are too expensive to feed. Beef will be lower when more of the cattle is slaughtered THEN it will sky rocket.

Why go to your farmers market and buy grass fed beef? The meat is frozen and the taste is so much better. It may be better for your health too. I've had Omaha steaks numerous times and I keep hoping for something better than I get. If you are older than 40, I suspect you know what I mean by taste. The taste of beef has really changed over time as more of the stuff we get in stores is now from factory farms. Most beef now is grain fed.

We now get our beef through a farm in Pa. A bunch of families go in on a side. It's a revelation let me tell you.

I get Omaha Steaks every Christmas for my BIL who is really hard to buy for and loves to grill. I am sure they are not the very best steaks in the world, but they are a good gift for this kind of guy, especially if you need an easy to ship gift. He always seems to like them and I think I get a lot of gift for my money.
