This gives them a new house to renovate, which is their business. |
Disagree- they will flip it. The duplex in cape Charles showed they are absolutely not cut out for renting. They were obsessed about potential issues and minor details the whole time they rented that place... |
+1 |
Because they hated it. They don't like to have to take care of a property and clean after each rental. They also said they don't want to pay someone to do it. So that leaves the to do it and they said they didnt like it. |
Yes, but I am certain your house has a better floor plan than the one they created in this mess. Does your son sleep in an old laundry room. Is your master the largest room in the house while your kids have bedrooms the size of closets? Did you give up a wonderful family home for absolutely no reason to move down to humid spotty Florida where you have no family around to live in a cracker jack box that only you seem to be in love with |
| The house is in seaside Florida and they paid $700 something for it. I did some digging on an message board and found it very quickly. The town is east of destin. |

Sherry has been manic as F for the past year.
I am still of the camp that something happened or she wanted something to happen with the contractor Sean or whatever his name was. First it was all about that John model look alike and then she latched on to that contractor and paraded around Cape Charles in her swimsuit all summer. She even called him to look at properties before she called her own husband and told him about some. She is always wanting hte next thing and seems exhausting to live with . She latches on to something and it is her new ride or die. First the color pink. Then curly hair. Then opposums. Then shrimp. Then cheese. Now trees and FL. |
| There is no way this house is as big as they thought it was judging on the furniture they brought and where they are now putting it. Her display case in the dining/lounge/kitchen/entry looks like a display case a Kohls for dinnerware. That was supposed to go upstairs but doesn't fit with the couch. |

I don't know, I think Sherry is just letting her freak flag fly a bit more with the podcast and Instagram stories. I find her much more interesting now, than when she'd write blog posts with caveats every 3 sentences about how she'd considered some other point of view but went with this instead etc. She wasn't a great writer (John is better at that) but she is sort of silly and charming.
Granted, they do heavily edit what they share. But of course they do. I don't understand acting like they are abusing their children who each get their own bedroom, that just happens to be smaller. |
|
Small bedrooms are not child abuse. Choosing family weekends in a casual beach destination rather than running your children ragged with sports and activity schedules is not child abuse.
Granted, I think this new house is ugly as hell and I am staggered at the rumor they paid 700K for a pile of junk. I also think the exterior of their beautiful Richmond colonial looked much better before they made it white and stark naked. But there’s nothing wrong with them and smaller bedrooms (even a very large room for parents and a closet sized room for kids) does NOt constitute abuse. Even if they had their kids share a room it’s not abuse. Ya’ll don’t know what abuse is if this would even occur to you. |
| this thread makes me laugh so much. I've been following them since their blog began in the early days. I think Sherry just doesn't have a lot going on in life other than DIYing houses that she doesn't see how ridiculously over the top her insta stories seem when she gets overexcited about trees growing in her backyard or the pod they can't seem to unpack, when the rest of us in the real world are trying to figure out how to homeschool our kids and find ways to keep them occupied this summer when camps have been canceled. I've noticed over the past few years that their kids seem kind of isolated. They don't appear to be in any activities and they seem to spend a LOT of their time with just each other while Sherry and John are renovating duplexes and figuring out their next real estate pursuit. I feel kind of sorry for them, unless they've got more going on behind the scenes than she shows on Insta, but it just doesn't seem like it based on their lifestyle. I think their move to FL was shortsighted. They could have easily sold those VA beach houses and bought one in FL, while keeping their Richmond home and keeping their kids near friends (if they have them?) and family. But, as other posters said, this is their business so they have to keep buying and renovating for the income to flow. they can't only be making it from the blog anymore. They must be multi-millionaires with the sale of those other homes and the income from their podcast and blogs by now. I can't say I'm not envious lol |
I agree. They are not cut out for short term rentals. Renting their beach house was a prime example of that. They were too cheap to hire people to handle the rental and cleaning so instead they ran themselves ragged on turnover day. They are also so obsessed with making everything perfect that they drove themselves into the ground. I think dealing with the rental is what drove them to sell everything. I have also been following them since the beginning and agree that they have changed a lot over the years. Sherry is definitely in some sort of mid-life crisis fueled by Instagram. Now the Florida house- cool they wanted to move, but I agree that they will outgrow this house quickly. Especially as their kids get older and don't want to spend every living minute with their parents or quietly doing crafts in the corner together. I live in a 1600 sq foot house and it's fine but our layout is so much better. We also have a basement we can expand into to give the kids more space. The fact the S needs to over explain everything in an effort to defend what a great decision this house and move were tells me that she is not just trying to convince viewers this is the best thing ever, but also herself. |
Not true. https://www.younghouselove.com/duplex-sleeping-nooks-closets/ The plastic shelf helps us store toilet paper, paper towels, kitchen trash bags, and extra linens in case the cleaners don’t have time to fully launder everything between guests – or if they find something that has been stained or ripped that needs quick replacing. We’re learning that these very short turnover windows make it really important to have extra items on hand so there’s not a huge last minute panic. Here’s hoping! |
Correct, they had cleaners who did some of the cleaning, but they also did a lot of it themselves to the point where they were running around trying to get laundry done, cleaning the back patio, and making sure everything was staged perfectly all in the 5 hr window before the next guests arrived. It sounded like a headache. |
It says right there that the cleaners did the laundry, and that there were extra linens. They hosed down the back patio between renters. That's it. So what? |
