I'm the PP at a site outside the Beltway (but still in the same weather paths), we were closed Monday only. If we're open, we never get an unscheduled telework option. I'm pretty depressed at how much annual leave I'm burning just for weather this winter. Looks like I will have to tomorrow as well due to school letting out at 12:30. |
Why did your agency not follow the overall OPM guidance for the region? The general guidance allowed unscheduled telework. |
| Since there wasn’t a lot of warning about this storm, I imagine a lot of people don’t have their computers at home. I’d hate to have to come in just to get it to be able to telework but I’m not sure I wanna burn the day. |
Ask a neighbor to help out. Any other bus stop parent who will there will gladly help or any neighbor (retired/stay at home/leave taking) will also help. Just ask. I have done this myself and others did it for me. |
| Opm website says open for tomorrow. |
Yep - Kupor is an extra kind of flunky |
Omg your agency is awesome. Not joking. |
|
Just to be confusing..
Scott Kupor @skupor · 6m Update. We will officially update the @USOPM website, but, out of an abundance of caution, we are going to allow unscheduled telework and leave tomorrow for those eligible. For essential workers, we will update potential early leave options as we get more information in the morning. |

OPM status
Applies to: Monday, March 16, 2026 Status: Open With Option for Unscheduled Leave or Unscheduled Telework |
Option for unscheduled leave or telework. I'm no fan of the current admin but that seems like a reasonable call. |
Yes, they were originally open, then changed it to the current status about 20 minutes later. |
| This is the right call - fewer cars on the road is better in the event the weather is severe and will help those who need to go in person. |
Because it is open to the public, so we're either fully closed, or everyone is supposed to come in out of solidarity with the people who can't telework. The only time we get "unscheduled telework" is when there is a full closure, or if there is a delayed opening or early dismissal, telework eligible employees are expected to make up time at home to clock a full 8 hours. So yeah, looks like I'm going in at 6 AM tomorrow, leaving early, and burning a couple hours of leave. |
| If only I had my laptop at home! |
All right, I stand corrected - I spoke too soon here and let my negativity get the better of me! But, to be fair, I work at an agency/building that has had numerous other safety and weather issues that went completely ignored in 2025 - only the latest winter storms got us any decent communication from leadership or telework options. I’ll take it. Glad I brought my laptop home (and that the water in my home is actually safe for drinking 🙃). |
