For fall 25 it was 15% Pell (fluctuates 15-18%) and 63% white. They are working hard to increase diversity across the board and it shows.

63% white is astonishingly high. There is not a single school in NE having over 40% white.

Of course there is.

Nearby VCU reports 40% of their class qualifies for Pell. https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/vcu-low-income-grant-july-7-2025#:~:text=Prev%20Next,other%20federal%20dollars%20for%20necessities.

That’s okay, plenty of colleges like VCU will Pell grant. All ivies will give you a full ride as well. The question is getting in ivies.

Let’s stay on topic. A claim was made suggesting UR was increasing socioeconomic diversity. Maybe that’s true, but it isn’t serving that many true low income students. Nearby VCU on the other hand, is certainly enrolling a lot of low income students. Let’s talk when UR has HALF the Pell percentage that VCU does.

Until then, UR is still mostly rich kids.

This forum hates UR in what seem to be a very old stereotype of the school. We have found it to be very supportive with great opportunities due to the large endowment. Kids I’ve met have been lovely - smart, kind, driven, diverse. I highly recommend doing the Endeavor program if you get in as it gives you a head start on classes that might otherwise be tough to take as a freshman and gives you a major advisor early. Mine seems to be thriving and is finding a nice balance of social and academic. Joined a club sport, great friends and girlfriend, a campus job (we did not even suggest doing that), a beautiful campus, nice size. D1 sports with lax #2 in the country right now and women’s bb in the ncaa tourney. Highly recommend UR!!

Thank you for sharing! Appreciate it.

Using recent College Navigator information, these are the figures for the percent of White students from a few schools from an older Forbes article, "10 Expensive Colleges Worth Every Penny":

Dartmouth: 44%
Williams: 47%
Colgate: 64%
Hamilton: 62%
Vassar: 54%

For comparison, Richmond is 61% White by the same College Navigator source.

I’m increasingly frustrated by this forum as it could be such a fantastic resource. Input from parents with recent experience at these schools is so genuinely helpful as we navigate these waters. But the unfounded claims by folks that are just spewing inaccurate info is maddening. The claim was that UR is all rich kids. It’s not. Are there rich kids there? Yes. Are there not rich kids there? Yes. But hijacking the post to compare UR to VCU is not helpful to someone asking about UR. If you don’t have kids at these schools and don’t have first hand RECENT experience then just refrain from commenting. The espousing of hate toward these schools (seems UR and W&M are always in the crosshairs) is not helpful to those asking questions or those with firsthand knowledge trying to help answer questions. Let’s be better.
