Robins

DC got into UR yesterday, and we are trying to learn more about Robins. Would love to hear from current students, parents, or alumni about the student experience, professors, internships, job placement, and the overall strength of the business program.

Also very interested in hearing more about the Jepson School of Leadership Studies.

TIA for any thoughts!

My relative chose Richmond partly based on an enthusiasm for the Jepson School. This program represented part of her education, along with a business degree from Robins and the completion of a liberal arts major from the arts and sciences division. She loved her time at Richmond and also was supported in studying abroad. She remains very happy with her choice of UR. She now works in marketing, continues to travel a lot and seems to have been very well prepared by Richmond to pursue an interesting career.

Richmond doesn’t get a lot of respect on this board.

My DS is at UR and is extremely happy. He is a Jepson major and had taken several Robins classes for his minor. This forum hates UR in what seem to be a very old stereotype of the school. We have found it to be very supportive with great opportunities due to the large endowment. Kids I’ve met have been lovely - smart, kind, driven, diverse. I highly recommend doing the Endeavor program if you get in as it gives you a head start on classes that might otherwise be tough to take as a freshman and gives you a major advisor early. Mine seems to be thriving and is finding a nice balance of social and academic. Joined a club sport, great friends and girlfriend, a campus job (we did not even suggest doing that), a beautiful campus, nice size. D1 sports with lax #2 in the country right now and women’s bb in the ncaa tourney. Highly recommend UR!!

66% receive financial aid. It’s not all rich kids anymore.

66% received “some type of aid” meaning merit is included. Merit aid can go to rich kids, too. This didn’t ultimately support your claim.

They don’t give much merit.

Congrats on the acceptance to Richmond. It is a top 25 LAC so ignore the some of the folks on this forum. I'll note that UR pays gives a full grant (tuition, housing, and food) for Virginia residents whose families make less than $75,000.

So clearly the school is making an effort to bring in qualified students who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford UR.

Again congrats!

Yet they do offer merit and it’s included in your stat that you wrongly suggested was financial aid.

I’m not sure your beef here. It’s a great school. It’s not at all all rich kids. My kid is there and I’ve been on campus a good bit over the last few years. They are making huge strides in diversity, including economic. The merit aid pool is pretty small unlike many other LACs. One of the only places my kid didn’t get any merit aid. Most they give is need- based of some description. The huge endowment allows them to meet 100 % need with mostly grants that do not have to be repaid. 66% get some kind of aid. It’s changed a lot over the last 10 years. You can claim it’s all rich kids all you want, but that is not the reality on campus.
