If OP was a cool and laid-back mom, he wouldn't have felt the need to fabricate the refrigerator story. Instead he lied and poor OP can't sleep, eat, function and is a total wreck, a shell of her formerly controlling, uptight self.

I hate tattoos, I agree they look trashy. But, OP, your reaction is either crazy trolling or you are mentally unstable. You need to get a grip.

I want to say this with compassion. If you re-read what you wrote the vast majority of what you focused on was the tattoos, not the lying. I think people are just responding to what you highlighted in your own narrative.

Multiple people focused on the lying too.

Yes, every mom should strive to be “cool.” Then, she will be a good mom.

Agreed. And if not, the kid is definitely doing this on purpose because he can't stand his mom (reasonable) and likely has no intention of being in her life post college.

Dad did not question this, even though he knew he has a refrigerator in his college suite and gave him money. Kid went to a tattoo parlour (cheapest he could find because refrigerators are not that expensive) and got two tattoos that are horrible, beyond horrible. Worst tattoos ever. Kid knows I hate tattoos. We’ve had multiple conversations about them.

This was two weeks ago. I’m a mess. I can’t sleep or think of anything else other than what he did to his once perfect body. They are trashy and disgusting. I hate my son for doing this to himself and ME. I can’t function I’m so upset. I don’t know what to do. He says he won’t remove them. I don’t want to see my son when he comes home from spring break because I’m so angry and disappointed.

Tattoo isn't the issue, lying and misusing family money is the real problem here. You need to focus on that. As far as tattoos go, he is out of the womb and no longer a minor so its his body, his choice. He could've done later with his own money, once off of your payroll. What the heck is perfect body obsession? One accident or disease can alter or end it. Get over it.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while.

Kids can do stupid stunts like tattoos, weed, alcohol, unprotected sex etc inspired by stupid friends or observations or media but lying and cheating are character issues. You need to have therapy so he learns the value of honesty, integrity and making life altering decisions. Y'all also need family therapy to recover bond of trust and mutual respect.

Mine did something similar. It’s fine. At least the kids know not to tattoo their faces. Address the lying about money issue. Body Tattoos are NBD truly.
