How much sleep do you (personally) need?

I just checked my phone - I track my sleep. I average 7 hours during the week day and 7.5 hours during the weekend. I would love a solid 8 but it’s impossible with 3 kids and activities.

I feel fantastic but wondered if this is unhealthy so I did a bit of research. Segmented sleep is how humans did it for millennia—it’s the way we are wired! It wasn’t until the Industrial Revolution that people began to sleep in one big time lump.

That is why a nap is really good for our health.

Naps make me groggy and hard to fall asleep that night.

7 hours is good, but I wah and have a nap break daily (instead of a lunch break) I really miss it when I can't take it.

8 1/2 hours.

Under 7 and I’m in trouble.

65

About 5.5 and that has always been my sleep time number. I can function on less, too. I am still shooting for 7, but it's not going to happen. Also, I am a night owl, absolutely cannot change.

This bit of history is true.

Yes! There is a saying in my country along the lines of “too much sleep brings more sleep.”

My entire life I needed 9-10 hours and could easily sleep 12-14 hours. It was awful. I slept half my life away. Since menopause I am much more normal now and am very happy with 8-9 hours.

7.5. Less than 7 is a struggle. More than 8 and I'm groggy all day.

7-8 hours. I slept a glorious 9 last night.

How do you manage to get that much every night?

9. I wish it were less.

It depends on when I wake up in the sleep cycle. Waking and remembering a dream usually means I got quality sleep. I’d say 7 ish hours as an average “good” number.

The secret to sleeping better is to not focus on sleeping better IME.
