WashU's quality of life is definitely better than Emory's. WashU's dorms in what they call "South 40" are luxurious and remind me of Disneyland. The campus is amazingly well-kept. When we visited both campuses, WashU made us feel more welcome than Emory. They arranged for my kid to have lunch with a current student followed by a chat with a campus staff, which Emory didn't (and no one else did, to be fair). For the ranking-obsessed, 20 is a million times smaller than 24, allowing them to say their kids attend a t20. Emory's Oxford campus is also a bit of a head-scratcher, although applicants can certainly indicate they don't want Oxford. Based on these reasons I could see why students prefer WashU over Emory. My kid would, too, if these are the only options.

I dont see how the quality of life in Sl. Louis is better than Atlanta. Emory receives more applicants so it being T25 over T20 doesn't seem to deter them especially when WashU being Top20 is a technicality as its in 4 way tie at 20. Also Emory has better Business and nursing programs, the two most popular majors currently. Nice try though.

To each their own. I'm expressing my opinion, you yours.

Other than the quality of life point, those aren't opinion, just facts. Emory receives more applicants, emory has a higher ranked business and nursing program. Business and Nursing are the two.most popular majors in the country. Next time just keep it to theyre both great top ranked schools so you won't have to be embarrassed.

When you start boasting about the rank of your nursing program you've already lost the argument.

But you're boasting about a 4 spot difference in the ranking? That still doesn't help lower your acceptance rate as Emory is still harder to get into than WashU. Whats the point of bragging about Top20 when your easier to get into than the T25s?

Isn't Emory like almost 40% admitted without test scores?

It’s actually a lower percentage than WashU which is like 45%.

67% of Emory students submit test scores vs only 55% of washu students. Emory has a 14% increase in applications this year. If Emory accepts the same amount of students this year as last year, the acceptance rate will be 8%. The same as Rice. Northwestern, and Cornell. Seeing that more students submit test scores and the score range is the same,... Well the debate is over really.

Emory is now 44% Asian Americans, while WashU is 21%. Huge difference. Which mostly explains the "% submit test scores" discrepancy between the two schools. Many students have no preferences one way or the other, but some do not wish to attend schools with >50% Asians (after counting internationals) if they can help it.

And many of these Asian Americans don't want to be at Emory. They're only there because they didn't get into the Ivies. Reddit is full of Asians trying to transfer from Emory to top15 schools. It's literally a cliche on there.

Great point.

The Emory cheerleader sounds unhinged. It makes the school a massive turnoff. Let it go. We get it- your kid goes there. Was he also rejected by washu?

This is racist lol. Of course Washu boosters would stoop to this level.

Mind you, Emory has a higher freshman retention rate than washu.
Emory is 96% vs WashU 95%. But keep telling yourself what you want to hear. Emory receives 10k more apps than WashU but no wants to go there.... if you say so.

What’s the difference in freshman class size?

The schools at the Wash U/Emory selectivity level were reaches for my Asian kid (who did not even apply to any Ivies or T-10’s). Not fair to label everyone there as an Asian Ivy reject. Many kids are thrilled to have the chance to attend schools like that and for many, it’s their top choice.

WashU is a great school (Emory not so much), but how is it different from an Ivy reject?

I dont think they're the same level of selectivity anymore. Emory is more selective, but it depends on how broad your selectivity groups are.

Sorry, "More selective" from a school that admits 37% of their class from students that refuse to submit test scores is hard for me to get behind.
