As long as they allow equal time and placement for a wide range of candidates and don’t sideline AOC and Mandami. We need the fresh young voices. IMO Trump raises some good questions (why are we funding endless foreign wars? Why should we let US companies profit off of support they receive from the US govt without a return? Is free trade really that great? Why aren’t we more healthy for all that we spend on healthcare) BUT his answers are terrible: C&C (corrupt and cruel).

I’d love to hear from Dem politicians their answers to these hard questions.

As long as Josh Shapiro is kept far away. He is everything that is wrong with the democrats and this country.

Because he’s an observant Jew?

No because of his support for Israel. Biden and Harris lost because of their unquestioned support of Israel. The country wants America first not Israel first and is sick of Israel. Shapiro is from the Hillary side of the party. That faction was defeated by Obama and has lost two of the last three elections. They almost lost all three. He represents the establishment democrats who will not fight Trump but will do everything for Israel.

Shapiro has a personality of a wet blanket, will not carry his own state, will not play well in Michigan, did not help Harris in Pa and embraces republican policies. Shapiro’s major accomplishments have been to outlawing disinvestment from Israel and to punishing UPenn students who spoke out against Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. He also said he was in the IDF. All IDF soldiers take an oath to Israel.

Israel is a right wing country that actively supports Trump, republicans and MAGA. Bibi did everything he could to undermine, humiliate Obama, Biden, Harris and many other democrats. AIPAC runs and funds campaigns against progressives in Democratic primaries. Shapiro is seen as a proxy for Israel and this was why he not picked for VP.

Shapiro nomination would guarantee a Trump win and break the Democratic Party. Yes Trump is going to run again.

The convention will be a series of crazy Dems ranting about Trump, defending the "right" of someone's weirdo son to perv on girls in the bathroom and claiming that apprehending undocumented criminals is fascism. By the time they're done, voters will remember why these people can't be allowed to sniff power again.

They’ll be talking about the economy, and they’ll remind the country that elections ARE coming. The GOP is going to get rolled next fall.

+1. They'll be talking about how our effective tariff rate is 18% and what that means to everyday citizens' pocketbooks.

Except the rollback on de minimis for tariffs. Biden agreed it ultimately hurt Americans.

Will they shut down party members from places like Dearborn again, ‘cause that worked well last time.

This is why I hope they really don't hold a convention. The DMC sucks. The establishment is extremely unpopular. Individual democrats are much more popular in int towns, cities, states they are running in. That's what's happened in the WI Sup Ct and Iowa special elections - these good candidates drew attention and won voters over.

A big tent convention will try to appeal to everyone and end up focusing on fringe issues or alienating some voters.

I think Dems should rally behind Mamdani in NYC but he doesn't need a national platform for the party. There's a balance.

I am this PP and Jeff'd latest blog post makes the point much better.

I’m the PP you responded to. I’m not sure I fully agree with you or Jeff. I wish there were a way to truly understand if Mamdani truly has sufficient support. Without Cuomo he *might* get more moderate Dems and independents to reluctantly vote for him. The problem we have is this reluctance because the majority of general population feel like they are constantly being played by both parties The tragedy is that the progressives don’t care any more than the moderates, they just have a different playbook. I maintain problems within the party became more prominent when it let Bernie run as a Democrat. It hurt the Democrat brand. Like the GOP and MAGA, the Democratic Party has been usurped and dragged down by the extreme end. In addition, had Bernie and others like him stayed apart from the Democratic Party just a little while longer, they have actually gotten further ahead and faster. the Bernie Bros could have become the major liberal replacement party or died before fracturing the Democratic Party.

YOU are part of the problem. Enough with your purity tests and eating your own.

DP guess purity tests and eating your own only applies to AOC and that guy running for mayor of NYC.

And how millions of people are losing health insurance and our public health officials are quitting in droves rather than implement dangerous health policies.

How so? He seems to be one of the only things the Democrats have going for them.

You can put your antisemitic comments, well you know where. And I am crystal clear this is not about Israel.

Tell me you know nothing about mainstream Dems without telling me. Tell me you are chock-full of GOP talking points without telling me.
If you were ever a Dem you completely missed everything whatsoever.

NP and sorry, but I’m with pp. And we’re not alone. Democrats are losing because they’ve embraced unpopular, irrational, extreme positions. I voted Democrat since Dukakis and I’m done with the party.

+1. If they had let Bernie win the ticket, he’d have been president. The country was ready for an outsider, but the powers that be thought it was Hilary’s turn and couldn’t let that happen. So we got Trump instead.

Mamdani’s never done anything. He’s a theatre kid turned politician. He’s like the babysitter who lets you stay up all night and eat ice cream for dinner. Sounds good at the time but the reality of it sucks. He’ll be a disaster for NYC if he wins.
