Metropolitan DC Local Politics
This analysis is badly missing a "power" lens. Yes, there exist extreme leftists and extreme right wingers, but the extreme leftists very rarely hold state or national office. That's why you always get this analysis that looks like "An Oberlin sophomore said bahn mi is cultural appropriation" being presented alongside "President of the United States Donald J Trump (GOP) repeated white supremacist talking points today from the Oval Office, claiming that Haitians eat dogs." |
So....just about every D candidate.
|
|
From my perspective, both parties are unhinged and both have become too extreme.
If either one would nominate a moderate who will sidestep/avoid the whole culture war mess, I would quickly vote for that candidate. |
Ask a Democrat to explain what a woman is. |
Progressives have taken over moco. To a moderate, a progressive is on the extreme side. They may not be as extreme as maga but they are not moderate. People like op, me *former R), my spouse (dem) are looking for moderates. I lol'd at the balm mi quip. |
Who cares? No remotely moderate person cares about such benign things. I've used the women's bathroom and women's locker room for 45 years, and have never felt unsafe or concerned. Sounds like you need some real problems in your life, pp. |
Um I'm not sure about that. Look at the intro statements for the dem candidates. Bastani: $20 minimum wage and every VA resident (regardless of legal status) gets free healthcare. Hashimi: “housing is a human right” and “LGBTQIA bigotry”/”systemic racism” are central to her campaign. Stoney: “affordable housing crisis” and “Virginia is the capitol of compassion” Half of them seem super left leaning. |
Say you have three candidates - two decide to cooperate. Candidate A tells voters to vote for candidate B as their second choice. Candidate B tells voters to vote for Candidate A for second choice. What happens to candidate C? Insert demographics for the three candidates and figure that out. Why not just have the candidate who wins the greatest number of votes, even if its a plurality? |
PP who grew up in a solidly Republican family. For the life of me, I'll never understand what's extreme about any of those statements. They're not left leaning - they're human-care leaning. What kind of weirdo is bothered by those statements? They are far more attractive to me than someone who runs on dividision, or further funding the military industrial complex while taking away from people-care. |
| Moderates can’t survive primaries. As a moderate dem every time I open my mouth about a modern or social issue I get judged harshly by more extreme dems. |
B: Pro-worker is on the progressive side, but is not “trying to destroy capitalism”. H: Her platform is much broader than that. She’s prioritizing economy, education, housing. You’re cherry picking comments. S: Again, you’re cherry picking. They are all normal people with normal (boring) platforms. They all meet the PP’s criteria. |
Apparently, the bulk of voters would prefer A or B but not C. It seems to be working as designed. |
I could care less which bathroom you use. If you can't answer a simple question, you shouldn't be in office. |
B: $20/hour minimum wage will (next year with no transition period) will destroy many business is areas outside of Northern Virginia. That is not remotely sustainable and will create significant inflationary pressures. Universal healthcare at the state level will bankrupt Virginias government. This policy is only feasible at the federal level. H: Seems overly focused on progressive social justice issues and will definitely support bills that allow violent criminals on the street because it’s “unfair” and thinks that criminals can be rehabilitated. S: Is obsessed with affordable housing. He wants to override local zoning to force density and section 8 housing in peoples neighborhoods. |
But they hold local office, controlling schools and local crime enforcement, imposing extremism on both, which arguably affect people's daily lives more. |
