| This can be a sign of hypotonia. Ask about muscle tone at her next appointment. |
| I had that body at 8 years old. I looked like one of those starving children with stick arms and legs and the distended belly. I think I filled out by 4th grade |
Yeah I have a kid like this and I definitely plan to bring it up to his doctor (privately through the message system and not in front of DS) before his physical this fall just to double check there aren't any medical concerns and it's purely postural/potential weak core issues/just his body (which I've read is the most likely scenarios). I've noticed it but of course don't want to give my child issues around his body image, BUT it's summer and the other kids have noticed as well and he's gotten comments from those kids. As another poster has said, he almost looks like a kid with mild kwashikor if that was a thing! He eats pretty normal and is super active and strong so I know he's healthy. Assuming there's no medical reason, my guess is he'll either grow out of it if it's something about his musculature. Otherwise it could also just be his body--bodies are all different. |
I'm going to assume OP's concern here was about a possible underlying medical issue. But also, OP said this kid is her THIRD. |
‘CMon though.. DCUM parents run to their specialized paediatricians for the slightest evidence of even something as innocuous as a mosquito bite. If OP was actually stored about an actual health issue, she would have been at the doctor months ago. This was a test to make sure there’s OTHER kids that don’t look like that they have the very weirdly perceived, but completely normal, configuration of a human shape that is cylindrical. Honestly, the fat phobia on this board has no bounds. Including judging little kids. Again, if it was medical, or suspected so, OP would have already been to the doctor. Twice. |
Uh, no, girls come in all shapes and sizes, just like boys. |
OMG! Waste no time. Make appointment with Sono Bella non surgical belly fat removal and if that doesn't work, well, before she turns 6, a tummy tuck! I am being facetious, OP. You cannot be serious is all I can say |
Not if you limit their food early on. If they aren't skinny by.the time they are 4 they will never be skinny. |
DCUM always gives such normal and reasonable parenting advice. |
| My very athletic DD had this until literally two months after she started her period. That kicked off a quick change in her body development. She lamented her gut for years, despite my assuring her that her body was strong and perfect for her. She ate well, exercised appropriately. It was just her body type until puberty. |
| for my kid it was chronic constipation that made her belly stick out a little |
| Looking back, for me it was a sign of a gluten and dairy allergy that wasn't diagnosed until much later in life. I was constantly bloated. |
