4th Grade DCPS no grades so far

OP again.

To all the posters who replied with their personal experience regarding your awareness of your kids’ grades, thank you for taking your time to reply.

In our ES, grades are supposed to be posted in Schoology and have been posted there with high frequency in previous school years. So far, this school year, I have not seen a single grade. I am simply wondering whether there is a change in dynamic of grading (how often grades are posted) once kids reach upper elementary. Based on your responses, it looks like this is is not grade-specific, but rather depends on the individual teacher. Again, thank you for you replies.

For those of you who decided to post offensive comments that are unrelated to my original question: The lack of comprehension and rudeness will never cease to amaze me here. So, I suppose, carry on. It is anonymous forum after all. I wonder whether you use that language and attitude in real life too.

They've been in school a month. I'd expect to see something by now. What's the guidance from Gatehouse? Don't grade anything until middle school? Or just wait for the SOL in May to see if they've learned anything over the year?

In ES, there is very little guidance - just a minimum number of grades per strand.

Not in ES.

ES Teacher

Yes, in ES.

Ok. So what's the minimum and where did you see it? This is something I've never heard of.

It really depends on the teacher/team. Also, before the pandemic, ES didn't use laptops often or post anything online beyond ecart. The past couple years have been very different and many teachers are really backing away from the laptops and moving back to pencil and paper. In ES and for my older DC even moreso in MS.

It’s interesting that your school uses Schoology to such an extent (for grades) in ES, that is not the norm across the county. That could account for some of the differences in opinion.

Not the OP and as someone who just moved into the district this year with a 4th grader, I've found this thread interesting.

What I'm getting from this is that FCPS doesn't do grading in ES and you just need to wait until you see As or Cs or whatever on your kid's report card. Good to know!

I didn’t get that from this thread.
They “do grading”, but the grades aren’t necessarily posted to Schoology unless the assignment is in Schoology.

Geezus, Calm the F down. Ask you kid if you are so concerned. The first few weeks are taking assessments and getting kids into the right learning groups. Again, unclinch.

So you want random internet strangers across the entire FCPS boundary to let you know what you should expect from your specific child's teachers. Got it.

I'm the PP. Thanks these links are very helpful. I thought assignments or tests would be graded and I'd get those back at some point, but it looks like you just get the quarterly reports after that first interim report. Good to know, thanks!

We send graded assignments home in our school's Tuesday Folder. I'm know that's something that varies too.

Your child is also probably being graded on other classroom performance such as sharing strategies during math and small group work.
