4th Grade DCPS no grades so far

Anonymous
My DC’s teacher hasn’t posted a single grade since the beginning of the school year.

Is this typical?

DC is fourth grade in FCPS

Thanks!

Typo in the title of the post. I meant “FCPS”.

My kid is in 5th grade at a FCPS ES and we've had no grades posted, nothing sent home and nothing put into Schoology except another teacher's daily schedule because my kid's teacher didn't know how to make her own.

Gonna be a great year.

When do you think your parents first saw your grades in ES?

We’ve had a computer based unit test in schoology that we can’t view. But we can see the score.

We also had a math quiz, paper and pencil (thank God)

When I was a kid, my teacher sent home worksheets we'd done in class weekly that she usually just put a check or check+ on, but it was something. But I'm old and we used to have weekly spelling quizzes and such, so there were grades to send home.

I don't know what other parents have experienced, but that's similar to what my kid's 3rd grade teacher did last year. I got a steady stream of in-class work sent home and she also posted study guides online in Schoology for upcoming tests.

Unclinch. The Ivy's don't need their scores yet.

They've been in school a month. I'd expect to see something by now. What's the guidance from Gatehouse? Don't grade anything until middle school? Or just wait for the SOL in May to see if they've learned anything over the year?

The first two weeks are literally getting to know the kids/rules and also taking a bunch of assessments such as iready, beginning of the year placement tests. Etc. And now they are doing VGAs.

My 5th grader has been assigned a book for book club which I am thrilled about. First book ever assigned at this school.

Chill the f out.

How about sending the teacher an email to ask how your child is doing. Be nice and state that by this time last year you had seen some graded work(if you actually saw graded work in the first part of 3rd grade).

No one cares about 5th grade.

Posted where? In the weekly folder? If they’re not doing well, you’ll get an interim in a few weeks.

This is clearly teacher dependent. My 6th grader has had several word study/spelling quizzes, a few math quizzes paper/pencil and they took an online assessment on Friday.

+1
I’m guessing Schoology, but a lot of teachers don’t post grades in Schoology. It’s not like MS or HS where the grades are cumulative and calculated as the quarter progresses.
