Academy of the Holy Cross vs. Connelly School of the Holy Child

Meant to say - They each made wonderful friends with whom they are still in touch with after graduation.

Are most of the girls at Holy Child wealthy? I attended one or to events and the moms gave off that vibe. We are not wealthy, (two government employees) so asking.

Holy Child has expertise in dealing with learning differences. It's smaller too, so that is something to keep in mind.

This is good to know. Is there also an opportunity for others who would qualify for honors or AP classes?

Yes, lots of girls take honors and AP classes.

Holy Child has far better college matriculation than AHC.

Extremely wealthy

This is why is it is perceived as more "prestigious". It costs more and caters to a wealthy crowd. Of course the college matriculations are fine; the kids come from wealthy families. Those kids could get into good colleges regardless of the high school they attend.

There is a definite bias against AHC compared to the more expensive schools on this board. It's your garden-variety snobby behavior.

Kids should shadow at each school they apply to, go to open houses, attend events. Get a feel for each school and see which community resonates with them.

I have not seen this. AHC seems quite popular - more so than HC actually.

Sorry, but this is 100% not try. Most DMV private school parents have never even heard of AHC.

Will say Holy Child’s Open House was bursting at the seams. Not sure about AHC.

Funny, most haven't heard of Holy Child. Maybe just the Potomac, MD crowd.

AHC is better known than Holy Child overall. Where it ranks with the other DC area all-girls schools is up to debate.

Agree with this. I had heard a lot about AHC. We stumbled upon HC but actually ended up liking it more than HC so that is where we applied.

What?

AHC is popular in certain communities as many students come from Garrett Park, Kensington, Wheaton, Silver Spring, Rockville, and neighborhoods up in that part of MD.

The majority of Holy Child students are from Potomac, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, NW DC, Virginia, etc. Many girls have come from schools like NCS, Holton Arms, Stone Ridge, Visitation, Blessed Sacrament, Mercy, etc .

As a result it is far better known in the DCUM world and the more popular (and typically more wealthy) communities.

Most kids in this area are now “learning disabled”. Parents gaming the system. ¼ of current Stanford students are as well…
