How often and how much do you drink?

I am starting to realize that I drink too much. I probably have 1-2 glasses of wine or 1-2 beers a night. Sometimes a hard drink, such as vodka on the rocks. I've notice my eneregy levels have gone down recently and have been feeling a bit depressed. Thinking that my nightly libations may be the problem. So, just wondering how much others drink and if you've cut down or stopped, did you feel better?

I drink 1-3x a week, usually 2-5 drinks per session. If I drink 5 drinks, I am out with friends partying and usually don't drink more than once that week.

I am single and young.

One glass (4 ounces) of sangria or sparkling wine four or five times a week. More if particularly stressed.

Haven't cut back so can't help you there.

Funny. I NEVER used to drink, ever. Not even in college. and was the butt of everyone's chiding, constantly.

I'm 46, 2 kids, DH. This past year has been very, very difficult on us...lots of bad shit went down. Anyhow, I started having a glass of wine every night after work - and by "a glass" I mean 1/4 standard wine glass. I noticed that I was much more relaxed afterwards and it took the edge off my anxiety, stress and worry. I went from zero alcohol consumption for the first 45 yrs of my life to drinking every night which kinda freaked me out to be honest. Anyhow, things have gotten better in our lives and I have decided to cut back to 2x per week, one glass on saturday and one on sunday. If we go out with friends, still only one drink.

1-2x a week and that's usually 2 glasses of white wine. If I go out to dinner with friends over the weekend, I'll usually order a drink then too, but rarely do I order a drink when it's just me and DH and DC out for dinner.

DH here. 1-2x a week. Usually 2 beers. On a big party, sometimes 4 or 5 beers, that happens maybe 3 times a year. Makes me feel like s*** the next day. I'm old!

1-2 drinks probably 4-5 nights/week, once a week it's more like 3. Doesn't affect me at all and it's much less than before I had kids.

But if you don't like how you feel, cut back or stop.

I have a gin and tonic every night, and on weekends probably 2-3 glasses of wine when I'm out with friends.

I am not nor have I ever been a big drinker and i am almost 50. I will have 1-2 coctails once or twice a month if I go out to a club. But, I can go out and drink club soda just as easily. I look much younger than my friends and collieagues my age and I know it has a lot to do with the fact that I don't drink that much and I haven't over the years. Drinking even if you are "young" will catch up with you. It causes wrinkles, weight gain, screws with your metabolism, fucks your liver up. I know a lot of folks in this city like to drink but don't fool yourselves you are paying for it.

I am stressed too and I have problems more than most but I would never drink to take the edge off. Try doing someithing else i.e. yoga,dance, tennis, work-out, walk, etc. lock yourself in a room and stick a dvd in or do a 10 min workout from the cable channel. You will get more relief and do something healthy for yourself.

Life is hard and chances are it may not get easier so learn to deal with it. I say this as an older mom with experience butwho still loves to have a good time. The years go by fast and you need to be ready for middle-age!

Same here, almost exactly. Doesn't bother me.

1-2 drinks when I'm out or am entertaining, maybe 2x a month.

This was me a couple years ago. Then my husband admitted that he was an alcoholic (he's sober and in recovery) and I couldn't drink at home anymore. I have a ton more energy than a I did before. I'll have a drink or two if I go out to dinner with a friend or if I'm traveling for work, probably 3 or so drinks in an evening. It's always nice to be able to have that glass of wine with dinner now, but I feel like crap in the morning. It's really been the best thing for my body.
