I would imagine it will pass (where there’s smoke…) but the fact that we are waiting on this vote and it’s been tight lipped is super interesting.

It's because ECNL and US Soccer don't like each other. They have very different philosophies on the end goal of playing soccer.

Also there's a very loud and vocal Girls ECNL crowd online that doesn't understand anything beyond girls ECNL.

The net is that ECNL needs to get other leagues to align on the decision to pressure US Soccer. Which is why the ECNL pom pom crew is commenting like crqzy.

Without ECNL, on the girls side, US Soccer would be in even worse shape than they already are. US Soccer could learn a thing or two about developing soccer players from ECNL as is evidenced by the number of USWNT and USYNT players that grew up in ECNL vs GA or National Conference. Look at the mens side. They had DA and now MLS Next and you can still argue that the mens team underperforms year in and year out. And many of the elite men on the USMNT developed overseas and not at either DA or MLS Next.

Eh, what do you call development?
Big and Fast? Or Technical and high IQ?
Or a combination of all?

Because most ECNL teams that I’ve seen play direct.

There are a handful of clubs the actually Develop kids aka play possession/Tactical/Strategy.

I call development 19/25 U17 National team from ECNL, 19/21 U17 National team from ECNL and 14 ECNL alumni on the Gold Medal team accounting for 12/13 goals...............isnt that the end game for US Soccer, the national teams and to be competitive internationally? The least the Federation could do is send Lavers a fruit basket...........

It’s true, ECNL is sending minions to counter attack and to…………….praise the CEO?

^^ guy has a point though.

Majority of USWNT talent comes from California, TX, or these clubs.

SD Surf
SLSG
Solar
Sting
PDA
MI Hawks

Lavers is actually a tool but I just get annoyed when people irrationally hate ECNL. It is tiresome. It is like hating the Yankees or the Patriots (Chiefs) You just hate them because they are better than everyone else. But I guess that is human nature. If you are in a metro location I can count on one hand the number of places where it would be a better idea to play on the top GA team vs top ECNL team.

That is not to say you cant grow and develop at a non ECNL team, you most certainly can, but it is pretty demonstrable that ECNL has the best teams and you want to play with and against the best competition you can if you really want to develop. At least IMHO.

Development comes from a coach + playing good competition.

Recruiting while dangling that your club has ECNL is not development. Let’s settle that first.

Let’s look at the bottom half every conference in ECNL. You know, the clubs that come 7-last place every year?

Do you think those kids are developing or just playing ECNL because it’s cool to?

Put it this way. I give major props to the GA clubs that are still extremely competitive.

If you were to move some ECNL clubs in GA, they would seize to exist.

I will keep playing for another post or two. I refer you back to the poster that compared different conferences between GA and ECNL. It was 100% clear that ECNL, top to bottom, mean, mode, whatever you want to call it, was far superior. Said another way, the top GA team in most conferences would be middle of the pack in ECNL conferences, and the lowest ranked ECNL team would be middle of the pack in most GA conferences. So say what you will about lower level ECNL teams, yes, some of the suck, including Lavers home club of FC Wisconsin, but they dont suck nearly as much as the bottom of the GA conferences.

I love what TopHat and City and IMG and CUP are doing but they are the exception and not the rule.

Just ask yourself logically why a club like Nationals left the GA, where they were top of the top, to go play against Hawks and SLSG and SBV. It is because their DOC thought that they would develop better playing those teams. They already conquered the GA mountain. On to the next challenge.

You can argue qualitative opinions but you cant have your own set of facts.

Let’s see here. Was it competition or money?

Maybe a not so smart move for nationals. They are averaging 4th place so far in ECNL. In all girls age groups

Yes really dumb move for Nationals.........in others news Southhampton refuses to be promoted to Premier League and would rather fight to win the Championship............

Yes promotion to premier league = more fans = more money.

Chances of winning anything? 0

You might want to tell that to Jamie Vardy and Leicester not sure they got that memo.............

USSF might also want to see what is in the water in Michigan.

How a place like Detroit can support so many elite programs is really really interesting. Hawks, Nationals, Jags, Liverpool, Midwest United

Probably the same thing that's in the water in LA (west side), Detroit, and Atlanta.

😳

Ignorance at its heights

We were dominant in international women's soccer because no serious soccer nation took girls/women's soccer seriously.
That has now changed and we see the impact

Yes. Surprised FL isn’t a force. They could form a conference if they wanted to

Impact? Like being Olympic champions and ranked number one in the world?

We used to dominate at the international level and now we compete. We are still number 1 but other countries are catching up quick.

I think pp was talking about only winning one game at 2023 WC and crashing out in round of 16.

So how will the age groups work if it’s changed to SY? Say you’re playing U9 this year with an August - December bday. Does this change to SY basically restart your clock and you’d be playing the youngest age group for 25/26?
Anonymous
Most likely you will play u9 again or you can continue to play up with your current team.

Socal email is real. It was sent to the doc of Socal member clubs. In the email, they are positive the change will come.

Can you post details of that specific email please? Or post the email here?

How would teams label themselves? By grad year ?
A u16 team would be a 2028 team?
Or just 10th grade?
Or by birth years: 2008/2009 ?

It’s no different than how travel baseball is run today in the sense that a u10 team is comprised of anybody who turns 10 years old after May 1 of that year. So you do end up with kids in different years and the folks in last 3-4 months are disadvantaged the same way kids born in Oct-Dec are currently.
I’ve always preferred calendar year but it’s still better than tying it to a grade in school when you start to have people keeping kids back in order to gain a competitive advantage.

Will US Soccer actually be the deciding vote on Nov 22 or is the age change for ECNL and DPL a done deal and the vote is a formality?
