That's not what fake news means.

It was repeated by the Dems several times yesterday in the committee room. So, yes, it is fake.

Wow! This is the single most shocking thing that has happened during this whole episode.

I expect politicians to lie, I expect journalists to take short cuts with the truth, and I expect DCUM to post comments slanted by their partisan views.

But never, never would I expect the president of the ABA to misrepresent his views as those of Bar Association.

What happens to him for this misstep?

Here is media coverage of the letter, as well as a link to the letter. It's pretty straightforward. Not fake.

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/408894-american-bar-association-calls-on-senate-to-hold-off-on-kavanaugh-vote-until

The letter also comes after the ABA previously evaluated Kavanaugh’s professional accomplishments for the Supreme Court and found him “well qualified for the position.”

The problem here, is that the president of the ABA acted independently leading the public to believe that the ABA committee backed his statements. They do not.

Therefore, Fake news.

So why isn't the second letter recanting the first letter considered news? Google turned up only the Washington Examiner and Twitchy mentioning it.

The second letter isn't "recanting" the president's letter. It's reiterating the ABA's rating.

There is an FBI investigation. I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're attacking the ABA or the media for.

I don’t think so. Even if Kav gets on the court, I think the House can go blue, and he would be impeached. Whether the Senate would shitcan him or not, it’s not going away.

I’d bet he and his wife will ultimately see Brett’s spittle and tears-flecked performance as a serious mistake for them all.

Your response shows you really can't see past your partisan agenda. Just to be clear, my stated belief has nothing to do with his confirmation or the 'color' of the next Congress.

Glad you pointed out pp’s partisanship. It is a disease. Causes one to resort to non sequitur discussion.

you think that something so fundamental to women's rights will become passe?

nope.

How about women's rights are important and should be absolutely equal to men's rights but not take undue, wrongfully gained advantage in the process?

that isn't what happened here. Go in and yell and scream at your next interview, see how it goes for you.

Totally agree. I have said more times than I can count that this story has set back the MeToo movement. Big time.

No, it has shown that the metoo movement is nowhere near over.

You’re posting above your pay grade, and your deflection is uninteresting and inapposite. Perhaps you should check the thread you’re in, as you rush to lay down your special brand of duh.

Too bad if the investigation is limited. This will go down for the history books.
If he truly could have been exonerated then it will be shame, because the presumption will always be that he was guilty of this stuff and more.

The significant part of the letter:

"The correspondence by Robert Carlson, President of the American Bar Association, of September 27, 2018, was not received by the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary prior to its issuance. The Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary acts independently of ABA leadership.”

In other words, Robert Carlson’s letter did not represent the opinion of the committee. In his letter, Robert Carlson said, “we.” I wonder who is included in that. He was the only one signing it.

Also, this source has the 2nd letter, once again, linked at the bottom with this blurb:

Late Friday, the ABA’s standing committee on the judiciary said it had not seen Carlson’s letter before it was sent to the Senate. “The Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary acts independently of ABA leadership,” Paul Moxley wrote, the committee chairman, said in a letter to Grassley and Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the ranking Democrat on the judiciary committee.

Moxley wrote: “The committee conducts non-partisan, non-ideological and confidential peer review of federal judicial nominees. The ABA’s rating for Judge Kavanaugh is not affected by Mr. Carlson’s letter.”

https://www.law.com/nationallawjournal/2018/09/28/read-the-abas-letter-calling-for-fbi-investigation-of-kavanaugh/

Of course, Robert Carlson’s letter is there to read. No link necessary.

I'm a woman but can assure you I would be furious if I were ever falsely accused of anything as horrific as attempted rape or attempted murder.--especially in a public forum where millions were watching.

This has been the biggest sham of all time. I have faith that if he is not exonerated in the coming week, he will be exonerated in the future.
He will be a great Justice.

Limiting the FBI investigation is bizarre. It makes Kavanaugh look guilty and it gives Flake and others a reason to vote No. Dumb move.

Given the situation, I think both Ford and Kavanaugh's backgrounds and testimony should be scrutinized as much as possible to determine if he's guilty as she said or innocent as he says.

Not attacking the ABA but the president of the organization. The president implies heavily he is speaking for the ABA, but he didn't first run it by the ABA committee that actually has purview over such matters. Am glad that the ABA committee at least stood up for good governance.

No, hon, this is the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of men getting away with sh!t. Women are furious. Raging. Fuming. I've never seen so many friends and relatives so apoplectic. Not even after Trump won.

Too many women who have experienced trauma and the men who caused it got away with it and women are not taking it anymore.

Only someone blind cannot see it.

If BK is seated on the SCOTUS Republicans can kiss the women's vote goodbye forever. And sadly for you, women vote at a higher rate than men.

If that performance of his suggested fitness for the bench to you, I don’t think you understand what a justice is supposed to be.
