Exploitative, cheesy, and unnecessarily showy. They shouldn't even be allowed at school, it's disruptive for everyone. If your parent is returning from a deployment, either stay at home that day, or after school is soon enough.

both my husband and I were military, before someone screams we're antimilitary and I don't know what I'm talking about.

Certainly. But moms who choose to be home because *that's what they want to do* aren't in any way martyrs. They'd rather be doing that than WOH. So good for them for following their bliss.

As long as they admit it, that's fine. MANY SAHMs do it mostly for themselves. And again, that's fine. But don't pretend it's to make a husband's life easier or enrich a child's.

You know, those things aren't mutually exclusive. I SAH because I want to and I enjoy it. But it is also true that my husband's life is easier and my child's life is enriched. And I'm happy about that. It's all good.

And most people aren't disagreeing with you on the reasons you SAH. However, my minority opinion of you is that you are lacking in some way. Either you are lazy, unintelligent, unmotivated, disorganized, a procrastinator, undisciplined, a stress case etc. All of the SAHMs I know, besides those with DC with very high level special needs or serious medical illnesses, have any combination of these traits.

You're right - that is a minority opinion and also extremely amusing. Clearly, you don't know the SAHMs I know, who make up a good percentage of the moms in my community. These are all very accomplished women who decided to leave their careers to SAH, some for a short time, others for much longer.

I'm sure you realize that you are lacking in some way - probably multiple ways - right? Do you really want to get into the many ways in which you are lacking? I thought educated, thoughtful people had put the mommy wars behind them. You must not fall into that category.

It's actually not amusing. I find it sad for the families and the SAHMs. Most of my neighborhood is SAHMs and this describes the majority of them. Some left careers and others never had one. The vast majority that left their careers wouldn't be considered "very accomplished" in their short amount of years in their careers.

And if you'd like to talk about me, let's go ahead. I don't believe I'm lacking in any ways. Don't mistake that for being perfect, because that's subjective anyways.

There is nothing wrong with being a SAHM, but to think that parents have such unequal parenting roles and that women are solely designed to bear children and not have careers is just sad. I guess if you were born in the 1800s you would be okay not voting? You don't seem supportive of the progression of women's rights.

I support women's rights. I just don't buy into the "dads can be as good as moms" fad. I have never known a child to want their father when they are sick or hurt. I doubt you have either.

Now I just feel sad for your DC. Frankly I feel bad for your whole family. My DC are happy with either parent when they are sick or hurt.

Ditto. My husband shares parenting duties and if he is the parent around, then DC runs to him when hurt. I feel sorry for the husbands and children of sahm that hold the reins so tightly that dad never forms a close bond with their kids.

I feel sorry for yours that their dad is more capable of healing them then you are. Or maybe somehow they think that you won't be there or that you'll rush away somewhere so they need to get the nearest person they see?

New poster here - you really need help. You get some kind of perverse satisfaction from being THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN COMFORT your kids. Don't you WANT them to have a close relationship with their father? Or because you contribute nothing else to your household, you convince them that only mommy will do? When they go to school, will you let the teachers comfort them? Or will you throw yourself off a bridge because your life has no meaning?

Can you honestly not see that a child needs their mother? fathers, teachers, daycare workers(well not in my house, in yours maybe) all have their place, but no one can beat mom.

Making it a show for everyone to see and posting it everywhere is the distasteful and exploitative part of it. Nothing is private anymore, and everything becomes "look at me". Nobody asks the children how they feel about having their (private) emotions broadcast and put on the internet.
