VA Public Schools other than FCPS
| Nothing anyone has said in this thread really matters - it’s clear APS doesn’t have the money for the projects that could justify the need for a swing space in 2026. The question now is does APS close the school anyway. |
They literally represent all APS PTAs/PTSAs. https://www.arlingtonccpta.org/home |
That doesn't mean every school community agrees with their position. ?? |
I don't think the CCPTA would've taken the position on behalf of all their PTAs unless they had significant support for it. |
South Arlington parents don't want their kids sitting on buses for up to an hour to go to a North Arlington school. They would much prefer that if their schools need renovation, they find space closer to where they actually live. |
| They’ve jumped the shark. What a was tone-deaf statement. They need to be kept near their immigration lawyers!??!? Yowzers. |
| Yeah. And their domestic violence counselors. Because that’s limited to S. ARLINGTON. Good lord. I seriously wonder whether there’s robust participation by S. Arlington PTAs in this iteration of the CCPTA. Because WOW! |
Disappointing. CCPTA was doing some good things for a while. Now it just seems focused on the same "equity" via making everything the same for everyone because the poor families aren't capable of life. |
Depends on your definition of "significant support." In my experience with CCPTA (past rep), there is very little actual engagement/voicing by everyone. It's more a matter of nobody, or few, reps not objecting to what the leadership is putting forward. It was my impression that some north Arlington and a few south Arlington (not-so-poor) PTAs were the only ones that really relayed information back and forth between the individual school and CCPTA. So it's never been a good barometer of school communities' opinions. And now, it looks like all the leadership is from north Arlington. |
Of course they would. Who wouldn't? |
Yeah. I guess the lawyers aren't able to travel to north Arlington. |
| I do not support turning Nottingham into swing space, but thought that CCPTA statement should absolutely have stopped at the APS $$ issue. Let the individual school communities advocate for themselves if they feel “time-poor” or whatever gross stereotype reinforcement CCPTA was spitting out. |
Those school communities' PTAs would be represented by the CCPTA and, again, had their support. Stop with the manufactured outrage. |
Yes, I know how it works. I thought a few of the examples were gross. That’s not manufactured outrage. But what do I care, I’m just a rich Nottie, right? |

These PTA groups do not speak for people. It's so annoying to me. It's half a dozen self-interested types who then make it seem as if they represent a collective view. It's BS. I've been at two N Arl elementary schools and it's the same thing.
PTAs should stick to what they are for...supporting teachers and finding ways to do more for our kids. Stay out of advocacy and lobbying the school board. We are all perfectly capable of speaking up for ourselves individually and it also annoys me that the School Board and APS actually treat these PTAs with outsized importance. Why do they get a bigger seat at the table than any of the rest of us? |
