Why is newborn genital amputation protected under the guise of "religious freedom"?
This makes no sense to me. How about if I start a cult that believes in cutting off the nipples of newborn girls? Should that "right" be protected, too? Germany has now banned this practice... it's about time. Keep your knives away from babies' genitalia. |
| This also makes no sense to me. |
| This is just thinly veiled anti-semitism. It's no wonder Germany is the first to do this. |

Just some extra info. This case revolved around a 4 year old Muslimboy who got a botched circ.
His mom took him to the er 2 days later. He died. That is why the doctor was taken to court and ruled to have caused negligent bodily harm and why it was ruled the parents religion did not override the safety of the child. |

and my understanding is Drs. are banned from circing... which you cant look at it from an American view because most/many German Doctors refused to circ unless there was medical need anyway.
the majority of people there are not circed. so its not that people cant get circed its that Drs cant do it... it is a direct ban on medical doctors. so im guessing the jewish person who does them can still? but i could be wrong |
| I KNOW this is a different issue, but female circumcision is seen as horrifying. Why is mutilating the genitals we are born with seen as OK for males when they are babies? If they reach age of consent and want to be circumcised, then fine. I may be in the minority here, but I think Germany is doing the right thing. |
| Why do you feel it is appropriate to post this in an inappropriate way? |
Amen! Ament! I'm so fucking sick of people crying anti-semitism on this. On another thread someone LITERALLY compared this to the holocaust. Holy shit! I have plenty of Jewish friends, am absolutely NOT not not not not anti-semitic. This is not religious freedom. This is your child's freedom not to have part of penis lopped off. Yeah, there are religions that require female circumcision and in some cases U.S. gives those people safe harbor and refugee status; we find it so abhorrent. NO on circ. No more. I wish the U.S. would ban it too. I'd gladly fight for that. |
And that makes sense if you ask me. My son almost died due to a botched circumcision as well. Done by a very popular OB/Gyn with tons of experience. He required extra NICU time and a blood transfusion, and it was very scary. I know many will now say I shouldn't have had it done by an OB/Gyn and believe me, I deeply regret it. I didn't have another boy, but if I had, my husband and I both agreed that we would never circumcise again. |
| Come on! This should be a personal choice and i know my father, me and my sons are perfectly fine and happy being circumsized. It is my personal opinion that it is healtier and cleaner. In fact i know alot of guys who got infections (minor) but none the less got them because they werent super thorough when cleaning there un-circumsized penis. |

Yep and many people feel the same about female circumcision. Some find it okmwhile others, including probably everyone who has posted here, believe it is a human right violation. I'm with Germany on this one. |

Nothing "inappropriate" with the way I posted this.
No anti-semitism is involved in spite of what one PP tried to stir up. I see that no one who defends penis mutilation cared to weigh in on my question regarding the hypothetical cult practicing the snipping of female babies' nipples. Is that not just as unnecessary yet equally abhorent? |

Bullshit. Your post was needlessly inflammatory. No pun intended. |
