With affordabe care act now set to be the law of the land does it mean that the government will now pay for my nanny's health insurance? |
Not an expert but I'm guessing that if you decide to be a jerk and not pay it, it will be easier for her to purchase it on her own. Or she can choose to pay the fine.
|
Why is that being a jerk? Doesn't the law state that people under a certain income will be provided health insurance? |
If only. |
No. The government only pays insurance for the elderly, the poor, and the disabled. |
Do you pay such a low salary that your nanny will be eligible for Medicaid? Then you are a jerk! |
umm, no. |
Huh? Who ever required you to pay it in the first place? |
You mean only for people BELOW poverty - in VA, a family of three has to make less than like $35,000 approx. So then, i guess a family of 4 on $40,000 will have ot pay a $750+ penalty every year if they can't afford individual family plans at $800/month. This disgusts me. How does this law help poor people?????? |
it looks like from doing research it may cover nannies
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) generally provides financial assistance, either through Medicaid eligibility or tax credits for private health insurance, to people with incomes up to 400% of the poverty level and who do not have access to public health coverage or affordable coverage through an employer-sponsored health plan. |
States can increase Medicaid coverage from about 43% of the federal poverty guideline up to 133% of the FPG. Not sure if VA will do this. Maryland plans to. Each state must creat an exchange to sell health insurance to families who make less than 400% of FPG. Families will pay premiums based on a sliding scale. So family of four making up to $93,000 a year will be able to access lower-cost health insurance, and will not be denied because preexisting conditions like one kid has asthma, or the dad has had melanoma. Small businesses will get decent-sized tax credits to encourage their offering employer-based coverage to their employees. It's not perfect, by any means, but it will ease access to health coverage for many. |
It might be time for you to read the law. Obamacare includes premium subsidies for insurance purchased at exchanges. Subsidies are available for families with incomes below 400 percent of the federal poverty line. The FPL is around $22,000 for a family of 4. So, a family of four could earn up to almost $90,000 and still be eligible for a subsidy. The subsidies are provided on a sliding scale with families at the lower end contributing 4 percent of their income and families at the top contributing 9.5 percent. Let's take your family of 4 making $40,000. They would have to pay less than $2,000 a year to get insured. That more like $170 a month for a family plan which is a very good deal compared to your suggested $800 a month. |
This part of the law is not kicking in anytime soon.... |
2014. Same as the mandate, err tax. |
Your next fun time will be finding a physician who has an opening less than 3 or 4 months out who is willing to accept your gov't card. At the already poor repayment rates and slow time to repayment from the federal government, Im sure you will be able to find primary care physicians who are willing to take you somewhere; however, when it comes to getting specialty care, good luck with that! 10-15minute appointments where the physician sees your for 5 because they are behind since everyone thinks its time to bring up 4 different ailments during the visit. will be interesting what is done in the future for increasing quality of care while maintaining cost benefit. |
