You mean only for people BELOW poverty - in VA, a family of three has to make less than like $35,000 approx. So then, i guess a family of 4 on $40,000 will have ot pay a $750+ penalty every year if they can't afford individual family plans at $800/month. This disgusts me. How does this law help poor people??????
It might be time for you to read the law. Obamacare includes premium subsidies for insurance purchased at exchanges. Subsidies are available for families with incomes below 400 percent of the federal poverty line. The FPL is around $22,000 for a family of 4. So, a family of four could earn up to almost $90,000 and still be eligible for a subsidy. The subsidies are provided on a sliding scale with families at the lower end contributing 4 percent of their income and families at the top contributing 9.5 percent. Let's take your family of 4 making $40,000. They would have to pay less than $2,000 a year to get insured. That more like $170 a month for a family plan which is a very good deal compared to your suggested $800 a month.
This part of the law is not kicking in anytime soon....
