It appears this poster shares this 30,000 foot perspective:
Who makes new changes in policy, rules and regulations? The fading old guard still in charge. For whom do these changes tend to benefit the most? The children of this fading old guard. For whom do these chnages tend to impact in the worst manner? The children of the recent immigrants perceived by the old guard as threats Recent issues: A. MCPS decision to do away with subject acceleration in Math (typically a subject embraced by the children of recent immigrants) B. College Board decison to encourage prepping for the SAT reasoning and aptitude by rewarding these $5, 000/ for 3 weeks students with the unique opportunity to take the SAT exam in August -- immediately after their intensive SAT prep tutorial SAT is never offered in the summer but during the regular helter skelter school year) with adjustment of the exam summer test date to the fall for applicants to college (a tactic sought after by children of the fading old guard as children of recent immigrants do not shell out $5,000 for 3 week SAT prep and are not the predominant beneficiaries of all other accommodations provided by the College Board)

The College Board called off the special test at Amherst. They were forced to realize that this was something that would benefit kids who could afford a $3,000 prep session at Amherst instead of, you know, working a summer job.
MCPS sucks in many ways, but I don't buy that it's part of a plot by the "old guard" to shut out "immigrants." If anything, MCPS is all about teaching to the middle because the top kids will take care of themselves. |
Precisely. The kids of the old guard sit squarely in the middle and elimination of pathways for high performers (largely children of recent immigrants) is a feeble attempt to keep these high performers within their sights and "close" the gap. Thanks for making my point. If children of the old guard MCPS leadership were present day high performers this policy proposal would gathering dust at the bottom of a Rockville filing cabinet.
Mark these words. MCPS will reverse this blunder much like the College Board has done. |
Restoring math pathways for advancement in no way interferes with MCPS mantra of teaching to the middle. This can merrily continue ad lib. |
Assuming Moco does have a plot to keep down high performing immigrants, and likewise the whole country. I think 2.0 would be a feeble tactic and wouldn't work. So rest easy.... The cream will rise to the top. |
No thanks for misinterpreting/spinning my post. Your argument is based on assumptions that look like total hot air - unless you can show some data or other proof for your following statements: 1. The kids of "old guard MCPS leadership" are not "present day high performers." Huh? I don't know any of their kids, do you? Data, please!! 2. Please explain how Weast is "old guard MCPS leadership." I'm no big fan of Weast, but he's been there, what, a year? 3. Prove to us, with data or studies, that "high performers" are "largely children of recent immigrants." |
If you live in Montgomery County each school and MCPS has the data on MSA performance. The College Board has the data on SAT scores. Since this is general information in the public domain it's not necessary to spoon feed you. If you are computer literate the google search button awaits. Just open your eyes and try and digest the information. |
The changing face and surname of the county and country:

And this will shed light on the academic chops of MoCo administrators' kids, how exactly? It won't, obviously. If you're going to make a statement like that, you need to provide some data. Not just waving your hands at some school-wide MSA stats. MoCo fails in a lot of ways. But not in the particular way you're suggesting. Look, I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next person. But I'm able to tell fact from fiction -- unlike you, apparently. |
I go to my children's schools every day for the last 4 years. The leadership and teachers do NOT reflect the growing diversity of the student body. personal experience to support the poster. How about your school? |
This article indirectly attacks boomers like they are racist or something, but then delivers no point - no punchline.
WTF is the point of the article? That the younger residents in the U.S. are increasingly hispanic? That a lot of hispanics and AA's are living in poverty? WELL DUH! WhoTF didn't know that? And btw, a lot of people, white, black, purple, whoever, are all living in poverty - HALF of America is living around or below the poverty level. I hope the Post got this article free. |
What about the upper 5% -- some of whom are warmly nestled right here in Montgomery County with MCPS in the silos of Potomac, Bethesda and Chevy Chase? |
There is no research that indicates that teachers need to look like their students to be effective. |
Yeah, they're mainly white. (It's obvious you're a sock puppet, but I'll humor you.) I think your very broad statistics will confirm (a) there's zero, nada, zip data for the narrow group that consists of white kids of white MoCo administrators, but (b) white kids generally do pretty well in the MSA stakes (that 5% income thing again). The half dozen links you provided are *useless* for making any point about MoCo administrators' kids. Useless, I tell you!!! However, the links all show great achievements by Asians. So your concern doesn't seem to be about those Somali or Hispanic immigrants, but about Asians. Geez, I hope you're not trying to make some really ugly point about black school administrators and Asians. Although last I checked, Weast was still white. |
