2025 Boys Private School Results /Game Schedules/ Commentary

As long as Speaks is the HC at St John’s, I don’t foresee the Bears and Cadets playing one another.

Below is the back story.

During the 2022 season, emails were sent by Speaks and assistant coach Garrett Ince to Landon JV players promising them playing time if they transferred to SJC for and even questioned the Landon varsity coaches for putting these kids on Landon’s JV that spring.

The spring of 2022, was McGettigans first year as Landon’s HC and the program had its worst season in 30 year, surely this only added more ammo to Speaks sales pitch.

Long story short, the families Speaks / Garrett targeted are members of Landons 2025 class. All of them are still seniors at Landon except for one - who transferred to SJC (the Boston U signee) after being the MVP on Landon’s JV team that Spring.

I’m all for HS recruiting but Speaks and Ince crossed the line with some of their aggressive antics. Speaks showed his emotional immaturity and lack of judgement, when questioning the caliber of coaches at Landon.

My honest take is Speaks is digging his own grave with area coaches. SJC is still a great program but I don’t see him staying there much longer.

Are these parents not at work? Stop focusing on your son’s high school lacrosse career and maybe start focusing on paying your child support, bozos.

Take a look at SJC’s schedule this year. The only local schools that play it are the ones that have to.

Not a fan of Speaks, but don't see this as being especially egregious. It's still the kids' choice to make with his parents. Nic Bell at STAB did (and is still doing) the same thing in Virginia, and none of those schools are refusing to play STAB. It's a soft move on the Landon admin's part, and I'm sure every kid on the Landon team would love to play SJC.

IAC dad here. Not concerned with child support. More concerned with deciding whether traveling to summer tournaments in a private jet is worth it

If the story is true, it's hard to believe these pitches were made by email. Everyone in the DMV lacrosse community knows that if you say something crazy in an email, you run the risk that it goes viral and defines you for a long time. why not have these discussions face to face?

I think that Speaks' biggest problem is too much success in recruiting. he has brought in so many players that there are kids who would be starters at other privates, and superstars at publics, who will never get on the field. why do those families stick around? obviously not for the academics, so if they are smart, they will transfer to someplace where they can play. you only get to go through to HS once, so it's sad to see good players never getting a chance to touch the field.

Is there really anything crazy about telling a kid he doesn't think he should have been on JV at school X and that he thinks they could contribute on Varsity at school Y?

Is speaks even a good coach? If the cadets csnt get it done this year when GZ is rebuilding, it makes you wonder if he can only win when he has incredible talent.

The 2026 class is way over hyped

Lots of D1 coaches beg to differ.

Number of d1 recruits means little thee days .

Half of these “committs” dont ever see the field in college and quit collegiate ball by the time they are juniors.

College coaches are taking 50:50 gambles on kids who are 16 - 17 years old.

It’s just a fact and I know this hurts a few parents who’s to hear.

I recall somewhere in these threads people posting this story, being called out as liars and then his and Ince's texts were copied to these pages. The recruiting didn't start and end with the 25's. It was full on and continued through the 28's.

The IAC has a standing rule of "no first contact" when it comes to recruiting. The parents have to make a formal inquiry. In the case of Bullis and GP, it's been pretty loose as to telling the families "hey, we need a paper trail before we can talk." There's also been the unwritten rule of no poaching. Now, this has been broken from time to time and Landon has been guilty over the years, but SJC was way too aggressive and the IAC bit back.

I want to see wealthy DMV parents lean into NIL money for high school lacrosse players.

Let's really unleash some chaos.
