Someone has started sleeping on the sidewalk next to our house

Most of you would be happier in the suburbs.

I don't think that word means what you think it means. Mothers (and fathers) all deserve a safe and hygienic place to raise their kids, in cities and out, in all neighborhoods.

It isn’t Urban Moms (and Dads) who are facing the challenges of being homeless

The real urban challenges are falling on those who do not have a home to go to!

OP here: if anyone cares, I called Friendship Place and then 311: they were very nice and thanked me for calling. Nobody came and nothing happened. The person is still there, sleeping on the little sidewalk at the corner of the house.

Time to escalate, OP. Call the cops unless you want this to be permanent.
Signed, dupont resident who’s watched the neighborhood go to trash in the past two years.

As long as we're talking about what people all deserve - people all deserve a safe and hygienic place to sleep and live, in cities and out, in all neighborhoods.

I'm concerned about the person camping out behind the elementary school. He is carrying a sign about conspiracy type stuff. I have seen him heading behind the school at night and heading out in the mid morning to do his rounds and then set up his sign..talking loudly to himself. Hallucinatory? Doesn't seem like the right chemistry to have so many camping by schools, like the sleep + poop field by Wilson High School.

I’m not OP but I would not want someone sleeping on my sidewalk. If that’s cool with you, please provide your address and OP can direct them to a more hospitable location.

Get a powerful garden sprinkler. Or a barking dog. They will move along to somewhere else.

Can you buy him a train ticket or Uber to Baltimore?

I agree. We all agree. It’s unsafe for everyone, especially the unhoused for them to be on the street.

It's not your sidewalk.

Tell that to the city who requires you to shovel it.

Which school?

Ummm, I don't want to identify anyone in particular. Let's just say there is a lot of "activity" in the green areas beside Wilson High and Deal. lots of foliage coverage there. Also some in the woodsy from area by Hearst..also, the areas right behind Tenley business row, like Cava, Popeyes etc. and the small parks along Wisconsin' and Glover Archbold trail.. Obviously the library for the past year. The city seems to be allowing these campouts and encampments wherever anyone cares to set up.I think the ones next to schools or on schoolish grounds, especially with the human waste and through traffic of lots of minors who may stumble upon folks that aren't necessarily stable/sober etc. are quite problematic. Friendship Place gets a lot of community support, but I've never seen them redirecting people or getting folks off the street. So if they're not doing it and the city isn't doing it, who is left?
