Morning Consult/Politico poll - Do you support impeaching *and* removing Trump?

September 22: 36 yes, 49 no
September 24: 43 yes, 43 no
Today: 50 yes, 43 no.

In just 2.5 weeks, support for removing Trump has surged 20 net points.

Wow!

It doesn't matter. Pelosi will not take a vote. This is all about 2020.

Who is we? Are you a member of the senate? If so should't you be focused on things more important than posting here?

You assume the election process isn't already rigged. The senators certainly seem to be unconcerned.

This! If I had faith in a fair election I would be completely fine with waiting till then, but we know better now, don’t we?

Just stop. This is how it would have worked for Nixon. She is having hearings so the American people know the crimes he has committed so they understand why Congress votes to impeach him. Without hearings there will be no context. Most of what Congress knows has not been shared.

Resignation when the going gets really bad. Which it will. If he doesn't keel over first.

So, my prediction is that Trump will be impeached and removed, Pence will become President and immediately pardon Trump, and Trump will continue to rally the base claiming a coup until he is finally convicted for some NY state tax or financial offense and sent for a minimal jail term.

Impeachment is a political process, not a criminal prosecution. Pence can't pardon him if he's impeached because there is no criminal conviction to be pardoned.

Ford pardoned Nixon.

Trump can't be pardoned from impeachment - to the best of my knowledge, there is no impeachment "pardon" - but Pence could pardon him from any federal crimes, as Ford did for Nixon

Someone here is being incredibly pedantic and/or pretending not to understand what PP meant

I did not make myself clear enough, perhaps. What I meant is that Pence will pardon Trump for any and all crimes just like Ford pardoned Nixon. Trump will leave office, but he will not be in jail, thus he will be a loose cannon still unless a state, like NY, decides to try him for crimes. (tax evasion, financial fraud, etc.)

I think Trump has committed crimes. I think that we don't have all the evidence yet. I think that the Mueller report clearly showed that he obstructed justice. I think it's clear that he is going to obstruct justice again with Congress, to the best of his ability. I worry that despite impeachment, Trump will not fade away. I worry that there are significant numbers of crazy Americans who would follow Trump violently if he continues to shout "coup" and "treason".

It would be in Pelosi and the Democrats best interests not to take a vote but instead just continue to investigate using the excuse that witnesses and documentation are being blocked by the Trump administration.

Once it goes to trial, based on what we know to date, control will switch to the Republicans in the Senate and McConnell will milk it for all it is worth. Biden and his son will likely have to testify as will others and at the end of it all it Trump will be acquitted with all or almost all of the Republican senators voting for acquittal.

Impeachment has risks - first, it leaves vulnerable Democrats in the red states in a position where they have to take a stand. The Democrats could lose the House for what would in effect be a foregone conclusion when it gets to the Senate. Trump will claim that he was cleared. Also the senator for Alabama who is already in a dicey situation when it comes to reelection and however he votes, it will leave some who voted for him upset by anything he does in a trial.

And if they do rally to Trump's call for violence against the United states, what do we call that again?

What the liberals here just don't understand is this is our Constitution in action.
The House has issued subpoenas. The WH views those as bogus because the House has not taken a vote and because there is no vote, the House can implement their own rules. Those rules do not allow the Republicans any rights or authority in this process. The Republicans are not permitted to subpoena anyone. They don't have access to some of the material that the Democrats do.
So, the courts will determine who is correct in this situation. If it gets that far.

My bet is Nancy won't go to the courts because she is afraid she will lose and will be told that in order to continue, a vote must be taken.

You had it right in your first sentence. This is the Constitution in action. The rest is just silly nonsense.

Try to ignore a subpoena that you think was "improperly" issued. See where that gets you.

You and Betsy DeVos.
