Resignation, Impeachment, or Mortality?

So, my prediction is that Trump will be impeached and removed, Pence will become President and immediately pardon Trump, and Trump will continue to rally the base claiming a coup until he is finally convicted for some NY state tax or financial offense and sent for a minimal jail term.

You can't "pardon" and impeachment. But your story is still a good one.

McConnell is raising money on the idea that Trump will not be removed.

Even if Trump pardons Trump, Trump is still exposed to NY State prosecution. He won't accept that.

We are stuck with him until McConnell is removed.

How about using the election process?

I was hoping last week that Fox News and Senate Republicans might eventually separate from Trump, but I am not sanguine this week. They are really circling the wagons.

The really bad news is Syria. That is more terrible than any recent domestic event.

Impeachment is a political process, not a criminal prosecution. Pence can't pardon him if he's impeached because there is no criminal conviction to be pardoned.

Nixon resigned before he could be impeached.

Trump can't be pardoned from impeachment - to the best of my knowledge, there is no impeachment "pardon" - but Pence could pardon him from any federal crimes, as Ford did for Nixon

Someone here is being incredibly pedantic and/or pretending not to understand what PP meant

How about both? How about honoring the oath to uphold the Constitution?

this

dude, the man is a walking impeachable offense. They are completely shirking their constitutional duties if they DON'T have an impeachment process and wherever that may lead.

Ford pardoned Nixon.

And that prevented prosecution of Nixon for Watergate-related crimes. It was Nixon's resignation that resulted in the impeachment hearings being closed without a vote.

Me again.

So Pence CAN pardon Trump but that would only prevent criminal prosecution. It would not undo impeachment, would not reinstate him into office, and would not overturn a Senate vote preventing Trump from ever holding office again. Personally I would put the likelihood of impeachment at about 50%, the likelihood of removal from office at about 20%, and the likelihood of criminal prosecution about 1% even without a pardon on the table.

This will be a stain on his record, and he won’t like it.

But his removal from office is still incredibly unlikely.
