No, Bethesda would never admit the fields at Muldoons, etc. are crappy! (Those are their home fields for U9 - U12)

We have kids in 3 age groups and our club had a number of teams in the tournament. They all had a great time. Excellent competition. The brackets were spot on. No blowouts in games in most age groups. All were very close. The referee teams were some of the best I have seen at a tournament and I am a referee. So, whether we were in a time warp or on a different planet than the rest of the folks on this thread, our experience was quite different.

Bethesda deserves a lot of credit for salvaging the majority of games for this tournament. Many area tournaments were cancelled completely or reduced to the minimum of age groups. BSC had U9s-U15s playing. I saw some great soccer out there. As for the level of competition, it was as good as it gets. A few top teams may have been missing, but not many. With nearly 800 teams in the tournament to start, this is a big undertaking. Intense rain and a pre-Thanksgiving snowstorm for the first time in 20 years caught the entire region off guard, but BSC was able to move quickly and save most of the games.

As for the 'crappy grass fields'...we've been to tournaments all over the US and even the most prestigious tournaments end up with some teams playing on fields that are far less than perfect. In the end, its the same for both teams.

As for next year. We are looking forward to the Bethesda Premier Cup already!

haha. this is great.

good for you. you got VERY lucky this year then.

Our girls were playing in STANDING WATER on Sunday at Muldoons farm. This is ridiculous. Top teams playing top teams should not be playing on a slip n slide. (no one should!). It was dangerous......didnt showcase any talent at all....majority of the fields were on a harsh incline/decline.....was a total waste of time and money. I feel bad for those that had to drive in from Ohio, MAINE, etc for that shit show of a tournament. Every single year this occurs. This year was the worst though.

Invite half as many teams and put them on good fields and get your reputation back BSC!!! Parents are pushing to NOT play in this tourney next year.

I think OBGC fields have been pretty much closed all fall! I get the auto texts and id say 75% of the weekends the soccer fields have been closed.

No one's defending them...just pointing out facts. The fields were not unplayable last year.

they absolutely were an abomination last year as well. it was a mudfest. (after the frost delay that happens every single year and everything thawed out to complete MUD).

That's too bad. If a field is unplayable, that is a waste, for sure. We were at the Jefferson Cup a few years back and we played in lagoons for most of the weekend.

All of our games at this tournament were on decent turf fields and they were fine. I prefer playing on good grass (like Soccerplex), but that wasn't going to happen this year. As for reducing the #of teams to improve the quality, Muldoons has been a go-to venue for Bethesda for years. Way before it got to the current size. I took teams there 10 + years ago and played at Muldoons, so that's an issue they need to sort out no matter the tournament size. I know that many of the coaches, players, and parents at Bethesda were not happy with the grass conditions at some of the fields, but the tournament is contracted out, like most bigger tournaments. The soccer side of the club doesn't run it. So, they just show up and play like the rest of us.

For boys teams, this is a very good event. Ranked #8 in the US for boys' tournaments or something like that. So, even in tough conditions, it's worth it, most years. Girls have some other good options. I think they'll try to make changes for next year, but with so many options out there, why not look for another tournament?

I can see youve never been to Muldoon Farms. The entire area is on a decline/incline. For this particular tournament they put the fields side by side going up and down the hill. Usually the fields ( its usually U12 and below on smaller fields) are placed the opposite- left to right on the hill, not up and down.

All are on a crazy hill, Except for the fields that they squeeze in at the bottom of the area, near the stream. Aka the swamp.
Oh, and the player benches on the side of one field were smack dab on the back line to the left and right of a goal from another field. Any missed shots on goal were sailing right into the players benches backs.

Ive been going to Muldoons farms for about 8 or 9 years now. Maybe you should head over there one day before you open your mouth.

As have I...my kids have played hundreds of games there. And some of the fields, depending on how they're lined, have a very slight incline, but nothing that affects the game in any serious way.
If you really feel that way about the fields, you're an utter moron for playing there for 8 or 9 years.

Bethesda soccer has gone downhill, same as their Tournament. Enough has happened this year that they are paying the price. Watch next year.

Bethesda Premier Cup & Tournament Director Brad ROOS are DISGUSTING MONEY GRABBING SCUM BAG CROOKS! They CANCELLED Boys U16-19 College Showcase Bracket due to wet fields and REFUSE to REFUND teams $1,350 Registration FEE... that's over $375,000! They are LOW LIFE PIGS who made a FORTUNE for the past 15 years and yet are TOO CHEAP to purchase event Insurance like Jefferson Cup & EDP College Showcase. Do NOT ATTEND this event, they are DESPICABLE and IGNORING ALL TEAMS WHO ARE REQUESTING A RETURN OF FUNDS. Many teams are communicating and organizing a group response. Do NOT register for this event, BOYCOTT!!! Additionally they advertise all u16-19 teams play their games at SoccerPLEX and it's a LIE. Every bracket had games assigned at offsite locations, some fields were over 20 Miles from Soccerplex and there are NO COLLEGE Scouts. They are DISHONEST all the way around.. FALSE ADVERTISING and Outright THIEVES!

Thank you for outing the behavior of Roos. Parents have already told our DOC about this, but good to hold them accountable.

Well, if you use bold, capitalized type, it must be true.

They’re keeping the entire fee? That’s egregious.
