Trump announces policy banning transgender military service

I am fine with a moratorium simply because the way it was rolled out was by fiat with the chips falling as they may. We are actively fighting a war on many fronts, we have airplanes flying without sufficient parts. I do believe the day will come when all of this is moot, and no one bats an eye at trans in the military or elsewhere. But we are not there. Unfortunately I think president Obama probably set this back. No one is going to want to touch this again for a long time .

You are wrong on several counts. The previous administration launched a comprehensive planning process which was due to end this month. The current administration delayed the implementation of the plan. The actual fiat occurred this morning on Twitter. As far as touching it goes, several senators, including Republicans, couldn't wait to touch it today. I assume that you know that just last week the Republican-dominated House voted against cutting funding for Transgender surgeries for military members. Trump went well beyond what even the hardliners were hoping for.

Why do others countries have no problems with transgender people serving in the military? 19 countries have openly serving trans service members.

Please, those of you who think this is a HUGE problem. What are these countries doing wrong that they aren't experiencing it as a problem?

I think we should ban orange people from holding public office. Or from the US entirely.

Did you read the medical issues paragraph? Our tax dollars paying for this surgery and special accomodations for Chelsea Manning? Suit against Hagel?

A comment on the NYT from an ex-soldier who is trans said NO unless the individual is done with all the debilitating surgeries. I knew men who were gay that proudly served in WW2. Were they undergoing massive medical procedures ? No.

Why don't China and Russia, two of the strongest militaries besides the US have transgendered people serving?? No time for distractions

Because the military is full of backwater morons who can't handle it. They have to dumb everything down for them.

I don't know your friends of course, and I would completely respect them as human beings. But to say that they don't "choose" to behave in this manner is absurd.

I think you are right. Let's follow Mike Pence's lead and provide electro-shock therapy to see if we can get their minds right.

No one is saying they can't be transgendered. We are saying the taxpayers should not pay for the surgeries.

That isn't what the President is proposing. He is willfully removing thousands of active patriots (something he never did) from service. It has nothing to do with surgeries and everything to do with hate and fear-mongering.

Thousands?? So now there are thousands of transgendered persons in the military. Lol

According to that study, trans people serve at twice the rate of the general population. I have to really question the validity of that.

What about the Israeli military? Surely they can't afford to be distracted by allowing transgendered people to serve. Oh wai...

Why American transgenders can't go to serve in those countries?

Then they have to pay for it themselves, PP....

Orange is a lifestyle choice. So is acting like an egomaniacal buffoon.

There are, and it's NOT a pressing issue. Not sure where this is coming from or who is advising Trump on this but people have looked at the data and run the numbers and done the analysis and gathered the information and experiences from both our military and foreign militaries about this and Trump is just plain wrong.

By all means, let's hold ourselves to the same standards as two despotic regimes.
