My son is a FA recipient on his way to a ivy. We are grateful for the FA. But he did a lot for his school winning national awards etc. It works in both directions.

+1 same here.

Second, I dont want my children to be around the children of the poor- to witness their poor habits or the poor habits of their parents. Third, I dont want to mix with these parents- they are by definition, failures. Isnt private school supposed to be a way to keep your kids away from the poor?

This is a benefit of FA to a school at the high school level, or possibly at a middle school that goes into high school. It couldn't possibly be a benefit of FA to the school at the pre-middle school level.

Have you ever sent a thank you card to the parents who are supporting your child because you are unable to?

Cool for you. It must be nice to be a failure and have strangers pick up the slack.

Why are people who aren't obscenely rich "failures"? They may be doing very important jobs you may need them for some day (cancer research, college teaching, etc). These are jobs that often pay a decent but not amazing salary yet require lots of education and knowledge and are contributing a lot to society. These people also likely value education and would like to send their kuds to private school. If they left their fields to do something that pays more (if that were even feasible), you'd be in a bind if you ever git sick or when you want to send your special snowflake to college.

I don't know, your argument doesn't really resonate with me. I live in a neighborhood with tons of really well educated people - Nobel prize winners,
Doctors, artists, writers, scientists, etc. - all of us value education. And all of us send our kids to local public school, which is excellent. I don't think your problem is FA. I think your problem is that you live in the wrong neighborhood.

This isn't the point. It doesn't matter whether they send their kids to public or private. My point is that they aren't "failures." The Nobel prize winners, doctors, artists, scientists, etc., are smart and accomplished people doing important things. Just because they aren't rich doesn't make them lazy failures.

Most wealthy people are thieves...lets not kid ourselves. You can't get ahead in America unless you are lying, cheating and stealing. Yet, you feel entitled to judge others. Yeah, OK. Whatever. Carry-on.

Well that would be kind of hard to do since the school doesn't send publish who is on FA and who isn't. Do you suggest I just send a thank you note to everyone at the school? I'm just trying to figure out how to identify who is paying full tuition and who is not. Do tell...

Excellent comeback. Exactly the same type of stereotype from the other side.

I'm an Exeter grad who might have considered sending my kids to a DC private, but no way in hell after reading this thread. You people are awful. I'm sticking with our EOTP DCPS, where we have brilliant kids from all backgrounds, and none of the God awful snobbery you have displayed here. Bunch of idiotic peacocks. I feel sorry for your kids. Your ignorance undermines the excellent education they are receiving.

Wow! Troll post, hopefully. When you look in the mirror, is there a reflection or just a dark shadow and whiff of sulfur? Really hope your kids benefit from being around people, poor or not, who have souls and humanity and learn empathy. Clearly you are a poor example.
