He tailed her closely so that she changed lane to let him get past -- which was both the appropriate thing to do for a cop and generally just considerate driving -- and then he pulled her over for doing so. You don't instigate someone to do something -- by tailing her aggressively -- then ticket them for doing so without your victim being pissed. Absolutely, 100 percent unacceptable and the cop's bosses agree. He behaved appallingly and has been suspended. She should never have been arrested, should never have been in jail and would be alive today if the cop had been doing his job properly and not acting like he was on a power trip.

She had just run a stop sign and knew she was in the wrong. That would explain her behavior.

The cop did not say she ran a stop sign, but so very nice of you to plant wrongful evidence in the minds of readers.

Neither of those things matters. A cop can order you out of your car during a traffic stop. If you resist, struggle, fight, you can get arrested. Maybe the whole thing would have been thrown out by the judge, maybe she would have been charged, then. We'll never know.

The things a police officer do actually do matter. When a police officer pulls you over during a traffic stop, is it prudent to do whatever the police officer asks, without protest? It might be. Actually I am one of Bland's defenders but I do believe there was a stop sign when she first pulled out onto the road where the cop already was. It looks like she blew through it. When he makes his U turn to follow here you can see the stop sign.

It was over a weekend. The three days are not uncommon. But I agree, black or anyone else, outrageous.

I watched it five times and there is no stop sign. And he didn't mention a stop sign her cited her for pulling over to avoid him. Watch it again. And again if you have to. There is no stop sign.

How many poor white people do you know? My white cousin went to jail for an expired registration & was there for awhile. Get yourself arrested and it can take some time to get out, especially if you're more limited in resources.
