Not as many Division I players as Landon or Prep, but a very good record. Strong coaching staff with good values for the kids to model.

Does STA play in recruitment tournaments?

Their players play in showcases and/or attend recruiting camps as individuals (camps) OR as part of their non-school summer clubs (team tournaments), as far as I've observed. At least three current players at STA have committed to Ivies (Yale, Dartmouth, Harvard), and they play on standard area club teams in the summers.

What are the "standard area club" teams for standard STA high school boys?

And what is a summer club team?? The only sport I know of which has separate summer teams is baseball. Soccer club teams are year round, and players may attend showcase camps as individuals.

A few answers (with the caveat that you should ask the coaching staff at your school to really get an understanding):

1. The lacrosse and soccer club set-up is different; there's nothing like "Academy" soccer in the lacrosse world (yet, at least).

2. Here is a link to a boarding school website (Northfield Mount Hermon in New England) which has a good overview of how the college process works in lacrosse these days (it also has some discussions of camps):
http://boyslacrosse.nmhblogs.org/recruitment-process/
(you can use Google as well to learn about the college recruiting process for boys' lacrosse but you will come up with a lot of commercial sites of varying reliability because they will be trying to sell a product);

3. In recent years a number of the stronger STA players have played for clubs such as Team Madlax and Next Level.

It should also note that there are off-season lacrosse opportunities in the fall and winter too -- the summer is the biggest season for club play and recruiting camps though.

2. The school thinks they are old enough to walk in on their own and experience seems to support that. They seem happy with their growing independence.
3. It sounds harsher than it is--Mr. Herman greets everyone outside as they enter, so it is a friendly start to the day for the boys.

1 may be true, but the boys are always milling around (and running, and yelling, and throwing, and jumping, and wrestling, etc., etc.) anyway.

2 is absolutely true. After a while, if you don't speed away after drop off, you'll get a frown from your DS.

3 is one of the reasons (at least I say to myself) that paying 30K for what could be free is "worth it." Mr. Herman, greeting your DS at tne entry way -- by name -- with a handshake and a bon mot is inspiring.

New to school. 3 is so spot on. And DS has such a vanilla name and vanilla look. Impressed that Mr. Herman nailed it the very first day.

Has it been a few years, PP ? Tuition is 38K.

New C Form family. What should I expect at the C Form picnic? Will teachers be there, or just parents and kids? Is it a shorts and t shirt type event? Is it a problem if only one parent goes? Does the school keep track of who shows up? I was surprised to hear that they tracked which parents did not show up for the beginning of school form meeting.

Parent-run; no teachers in attendance; dress v. Casual; not a problem to miss altogether; School does not track attendance.

Odd that this was posted while the picnic was in progress and almost over...

DCUM uses a 24 hour system (e.g., 1 pm is 1300 hours). 06:54 (the time of the original post) is in the morning. So it was posted the morning of the picnic. Might want to park the conspiracy theories for a while . . .

Why not call another parent from the directory and ask or email one of the Form parents. Posting here is a bit odd.

Because someone with your attitude might also think asking those questions from another Form C family was odd and form judgments based on that assessment. Safety in anonymity on DCUM, other than the risk of snarky posts (and the OP got a substantive answer first before the snark-bombs began to fall).

NP. I've gotten some of the best, most candid, advice through DCUM. Yes, you need to be able to filter out the wheat from the chaffe, or the helpfull nuggets from the snark, but all in all DCUM has been a great resource in the private school forum and elsewhere. I was thinking the same thing as the PP, but did not want to seem so self-conscious or clueless, so I did not just call another patent from the directory. Besides, I really don't know anyone yet.

PP: Are actually worried as you say that, "people may form judgements if I ask ....will there be teacers at the picnic ? " Seriously ?? " Does the school keep track of who shows up?"

My guess is pp is same poster who started the threads:

1) First week in C form , how is it going?
and
2) BTSN, how was it ?

why the need to run to the computer and disect in a public forum each and every event the school has ? It is just weird.

what is next : my DS wore a white shirt today; how about yours?? ick

21:15, for a know-it-all you might try learning how to properly use the quotation function. While you are in learning mode, work on that reading comprehension: the Back to School night posts were on a different thread and came from a teacher asking for feedback.
