MCPS is cuttting compacted math and cohorted literacy enrichment

I'm so frustrated with all of this.

She was much stronger on this when she was first talking, but apparently she hates Montoya enough that the fact that Montoya opposes it means she has to support it now...

I like that Montoya is asking good questions..but I think it is distracting when she interrupts and asks the same question over and over again.

I'm curious if they have worked with current elementary teachers at all on this. It seems like they have wildly unrealistic expectations of the teachers. I'm also curious what data they have on how Model 2 is specifically working for gifted kids. What data do they have on kids that would have been in ELC?

Thanks, dingbat.

And if a student is already proficient... they don't matter. Period. Who cares about gifted kids, they're already succeeding right? /s

They haven't and they essentially said that. They've definitely consulted with Amplify though, which is telling.

She's not there.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?

She needs to leave the board. She picked today's meeting of all days to miss??? On the day they're rolling out new math structure pathways? She's a joke.

They have not, and verbally confirmed that today.

Fully support this decision MCPS.

Ignore all the haters

What's "unequal" about the current system? My kid is on a grade-level track. They'll still get to take whatever HS math they need for college. I'm not whining about them being "unequal" to the kid taking next-grade-level math because I know my kid is in the right track. Lots of kids are pushed to take compacted math and then have a lot of trouble when they get to algebra. Maybe the problem is with 2/3 of kids getting pushed to the accelerated track.

Even kids off the accelerated track can get to calculus BC by senior year. Faster if they took a summer school class which know kids who do. Algebra 8, geometry 9, precal 10, calc bc 11.

Laura Stewart cheerleads everything MCPS says and does. It's pathetic.

I don't understand why do they hate our kids so much that they refuse to do something so basic as this?

There's only a few of them still there. The meeting was supposed to be over 1.5 hours ago.

She had been raising some good strong concerns not 20 minutes before, but it's like someone slipped her a gummy during the break and she flipped to "oh well I'm sure it'll be fine!!"

Page 7: "declining MCAP performance as the Math 4/5 kids get older"

Isn't that because the top-performance kids are taking the Algebra MCAP and LEAVING THE COHORT?!?

I do not understand these concerns that kids are stuck on one pathway starting grade 3. I have a 5th grader and just within her friend group one child dropped back to regular math after math 4/5 and two jumped up by taking enrichment over last summer. It really does not seem insurmountable. We are a pretty middle of the road school too.

They also hate teacher, especially ES teacher. Apparently teaching 3-level of math and 2-level CKLA everyday is a piece of cake for these CO folks.
