Racist sign at Arlington rally to oppose Winsome Sears

Yeah. The same people who are vociferously defending the sign as not racist also try to cancel anyone who accidentally uses a wrong pronoun.

The appropriate response is for Abigail Spanberger to drop out of the race.

She's saying the stance on trans kids now is the same as the stance on black/white water fountains then.

This has GOT to be fake MAGA outrage because no one could be so dumb as to not understand what she was saying. .Can't you get the black vote without lying Trumpers? MAGA manipulative scum post right here.

Except that it’s not the same issue. No where close.

I’m a black woman and I think there’s definitely an analogy. I’m not alone.

Please explain how allowing males into female spaces is the same? At all? Unless you say any form of segregation is bad - even if based on sex. If identity is all a choice - there is no such thing as being black, so I guess I could get there with that view….

DP, but being transgender is the same thing as being black.

I mean, the MAGAs are out to get rid of both.

Yes, very clearly that is the case. The party nominating a black woman to be governor is racist, but not the party that historically supported segregation and is now making threats to bring it back. Makes me want to listen to the Logical Song.

I don't blame Spanberber for one wacko holding up a sign, but dozens and dozens of people must have seen it and not shouted her down. Not a good look for Arlington.

Hope how the NOVA school systems are handling the issue becomes a key issue in the VA races this fall. An 80-20 issue in favor of Sears.

Good for them. Will all the people here claiming the sign isn’t racist listen to BLM?

Yeah. The same people who are vociferously defending the sign as not racist also try to cancel anyone who accidentally uses a wrong pronoun.

And the people who say it isn’t racist won’t answer the question of whether that sign would ever appear at the rally of a white conservative male politician. Because, of course, they know the answer.

Stay with us here, it might be long.

Words have meanings. “Racist” is a word.

“‘Racist’ can refer to both a belief and a behavior:
• As a noun (a person): Someone who believes that races have inherent differences that make some superior or inferior to others, and who discriminates or prejudges people based on race.
• As an adjective (a description): An action, comment, policy, or system that expresses, promotes, or results in discrimination or prejudice against people because of their race.

In short, racist = involving prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against someone because of their race or ethnicity.“

Ok, so that didn’t happen here. What happened was that a person was trying to draw a parallel between the struggles of black people and the struggles of trans people. It was insensitive and probably disrespectful, but it wasn’t racism.

You are refusing to answer the question of whether that sign would ever have appeared at a protest against a white male politician.

The reason you won’t answer that question is because you know it would never have happened. And the fact that it would never happened means that the sign was held up because the candidate is a Black woman, therefore exactly fitting into your own definition: involving prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against someone because of their race or ethnicity.

I appreciate you providing the definitions, so we can see even more clearly how racist the woman’s actions were.

And really, why are you surprised? Are you seriously trying to pretend Virginia Democrats don’t have an extensive history of overt racism in their party? Or are you unaware of the history of racism in the trans rights movement, particularly the ugly history of trans activists attacking the femininity of Black women?

You can plead ignorance if you want, but the facts are that this is a racist sign from a racist supporter at a rally against a Black woman, and your repeated denials just make you look racist and ignorant yourself.

And, she made a big mistake in equating them. There is no equating it. And, it was directed to Sears, who happens to be Black.

The fact that she cannot seen the difference is a big problem.

The thing is, the sign is right. Once you have ended transgenderism, what is next? They will want to end desegregation. You have to keep drumming up a new enemy - that's how it works.

Sex is an immutable characteristic. Skin color is an immutable characteristic.

Changing gender is the OPPOSITE of immutable characteristic.

The analogy is a threat, stand with us on every issue or we'll support the return of Jim Crow.

Sears supports the return of Jim Crow.

She supports a pedo

She supports a felon

She has no policies of her own ie va economy nope nothing

She’s a liar and a snake .

At this point in time if you vote for one republican you are anti American there is no reality that is not true.

Supporting the party that is suing to stop your voting rights is anti American to its core

Winsome wants no one to ever vote again she wants Trump to stay in office after his term. As an American that is against everything we stand for.

Okay crazy.

No. But the woman with the sign works for the City of Alexandria and as a paid protester for various causes. It will be interesting to find out if she was paid to attend the event yesterday and who paid her.

Protesters are not paid, you stupid twit

I thought the Dems were the party of love and acceptance? When you have to resort to name calling, you have lost the argument.

We will be waiting.

There’s a middle ground between thinking the sign is “fine” and thinking it’s some horrifically racist statement worth handwringing.

Many people have agreed it was open to misinterpretation or not a completely accurate analogy.

But it is completely disingenuous to claim this woman was threatening to re-enact Jim Crow laws. And it’s especially absurd to stretch this into an accusation of a civilian wanting to overturn civil rights when we have a *sitting President* who gets a complete pass on violating the rights of many minority groups.

I have a feeling a lot of people who are “upset” over this woman’s sign will turn around and excuse all sorts of horrific behavior from the White House. Which makes it clear they don’t actually care about racism, they just are gleeful to get to throw the accusation at someone else.

And there are a lot of people who claim to be allies fighting for equality, yet they are making all kinds of excuses about why this gross sign is appropriate in this situation. It's almost like they don't actually care about the issue and are just gleeful to tear down the other side for any reason that seems o.k. in their heads. See how that works?

Lol she didn’t make the damned sign. And she condemned it.

Yep, pretty much. The only question about the gubernatorial election is how badly Spanberger beats her.

Thank you. As the mother of a trans child, I’m sadly disappointed by how many self-avowed liberals view this issue as “less than” others.

The reason we have a felonious megalomaniac in the office is because America hates a strong black woman. Why don’t you look up how many black women the felon has fired. Then, look up the mayors of the two cities that he sent white goons to and see what they have in common. Then, come back and tell us how you need to revise your comment.

Yes, and also look at the uncommitted for Palestine movement. Another reason we don't have a black women president. Also, Latinos for Trump. Or progressives who think Kamala took Bernie's rightful place. No one like black women. We are used to it and will survive and thrive, and run circles around the haters, joyfully living our lives.
