Will school weapon detections cause class time delay?

What about after school?

FCPS cut many educational staff positions this year-it would be shocking if they have money to have someone at the doors until the school locks up every night. Now if they cut some unnecessary Gatehouse positions maybe they could!

Since the counselors are now on metal detector duty and having to escort students who make it through the detectors late to their locked down classrooms per the new policy, how are they going to deal with students who need help with their schedules?

Parents were told at our open house that the new FCPS policy is that classrooms go into lockdown at 8:10 and that any student not through the metal detectors and in their classroom at 8:10 must wait to be escorted by specific school staff to the locked down classrooms, instead of receiving a written hall pass and walking themselves to class.

Since the classrooms are all going to be locked down, I assume that the escorts of kids not through the metal detectors and in class by 8:10 will be designated admins and counselors with master keys, but that was not specified so I am just guessing.

this truly sounds like a prison just like the kids say

A prison for the counselors too

It's sad that staff and students feel this way about school

I obviously can't get a hold of my kid right now but will be curious to hear about the weapons detectors.

DC's bus was late for 16 minutes at our bus stop today. I guess the first day of DC's high school will be marked tardy.

My kid texted me a pic of the line for metal detector and it was pretty long.

The bus arrived school at 8:08. The kids has 2 minutes to run through the security checkpoint.

DD texted me a pic of the huge line at Westfield at the bus door.

What school told you this?

Yes, tell us the school or this is misinformation.

Sounds like it's a chat gbt response and since the poster didn't name the FCPS HS then it's fear mongering and bogus at best.

I have seen online that one of the "M" high schools is a disaster this morning getting into tge schools.

My DD is at South Lakes. They had to open a side door to get kids into class. This was at 8:30 and school starts at 8:10

This is such such such a stupid policy. While there is always a risk, these should have been put in at schools where FCPS actually had documented cases of recurring weapons problems. Not every single school.

No problems at our high school.

The only school that should have it is the school where the knife fight occurred. Thanks to the gang members we are all punished now.
