Will school weapon detections cause class time delay?

They are going to pay a full time staffer to sit at a metal detector all day at every HS?

What about after school?

Yes, and at some places school counselors. So if your child was looking to talk to their counselor before school, not anymore.

The first week of school, counselors are in their office with students from the time the doors open, trying to fix schedules and switch classes.

Since the counselors are now on metal detector duty and having to escort students who make it through the detectors late to their locked down classrooms per the new policy, how are they going to deal with students who need help with their schedules?

Parents were told at our open house that the new FCPS policy is that classrooms go into lockdown at 8:10 and that any student not through the metal detectors and in their classroom at 8:10 must wait to be escorted by specific school staff to the locked down classrooms, instead of receiving a written hall pass and walking themselves to class.

Since the classrooms are all going to be locked down, I assume that the escorts of kids not through the metal detectors and in class by 8:10 will be designated admins and counselors with master keys, but that was not specified so I am just guessing.

Why would they need to be escorted if thwy just went thru the netal detector? What about late buses? This is idiotic.

I agree, but that is what parents were told was the new security policy.

Basically, it sounds like if your kid has a 1st period class like math or a lab science where full attendance really matters, they are screwed until the kinks in the new security policy are worked out.

They better go back to homeroom time so they can get everyone through before class starts. Kids who are there on time should not be missing instruction due to FCPS' poor planning.

At many high schools teachers who have a first or second period off are being assigned detector duty. Not counselors or security.

Oh, hell no. When are they supposed to do lesson planning, CTs, and grading?
