He had warmed it and was still feeding the baby when he ran out to the pool, he actually set the baby down outside and dove in to get the toddler. The toddler has taken swimming lessons and according to the report he was swimming for 2 minutes before going under but the area where he fell in didn’t have anywhere for him to grab or get out. He normally was very cautious around the pool (wouldn’t go in on his own) but in this case he tripped over something he was carrying and fell in.

Wasn’t the dad also placing gambling bets whilst the child was drowning in the pool?

No, the unemployed SAHD placed the bets earlier. He was locked in to the game to see if his over under hit. The player he bet on was injured, prolonging the game. As soon as the game ended (6:40) he noticed his son was facebown in the pool, dead, and called 911

Does the security footage and/or 911 call really match up with the end of the NBA game?

I can’t find that information anywhere. The game started at 4:30, the first half ended at 5:36, so the second half should have started at 5:51. But I can’t find a minute by minute play or a time when the final buzzer went

This article says the game was still on when first responders arrived, but that could be postgame.

DP here. While it would be insane if it were true (I have no clue) I don’t think it makes the situation any more horrifying.

He seems like a terrible person. His statement was that he was so wrapped up with the baby (presumably feeding, changing a diaper, etc) that he momentarily lost sight of his son. Then the report comes out that he was watching an NBA game. I bet the newborn was asleep the whole time. What a POS to use the baby as an excuse!

I’ve read that with Arizona time he seems to have called at the end of the third quarter. His bet was on Tatum to score 40 points and he was close to hitting the net at that time. Seems like quarter ended at 6:49 he called at 6:40.

So yes, intent on game, about to win his bet maybe be was too into the TV. Game goes to commercial break before the 4th and he realizes he doesn’t know where T is.

Does anyone have a photo of the pool? I'm having trouble envisioning what's so great about it that a fence would ruin its aesthetics. I don't think I've ever seen a pool without a fence -- and we have some fairly wealthy friends.

You've never seen a luxury back patio area where the sliding door just opens directly onto the patio? This is how all pools used to be before all the new safety recommendations/laws in some places.

Apparently the Dad lied more than I realized. According to those who have read the entire police report, he initially told police he was sitting outside feeding the baby and "lost sight" of the 3 yo for "a couple minutes." Turns out he was never outside at all. Didn't he know he had surveillance footage? Lying shows consciousness of guilt.

He also deleted posts and info that detailed his online activity. They had to get his records that had been deleted from his phone. You don’t do that unless you’re concerned about how they will look. You don’t do that if you have no guilt.

This video shows the backyard and pool and if you look closely you can see the "net" covering the pool that was obviously not on at the time of the incident. Our friends have a motorized retracting cover that is significantly more substantial than this that they use any time they are not directly using the pool. They do not have a fence though. Theirs is in VA, but not in the DC area.

And this article shows a screenshot of Emilie opening her sliding glass door for the dog, with the pool in the background.

The poor baby was alone for 9 minutes. He's an awful awful person. It looks like she really only wanted the pages describing the play by play of him drowning which is fair imo. This report was brutal without it.

I agree it's fair especially because of how much info was still released, especially the part about him falling in accidentally and then swimming/treading water for 2 minutes. That's pretty good for that age. That is a lot of time to be rescued if the caregiver was even half paying attention. I'm not sure how dad recovers from this.
