Calling it a "little bump" was mildly annoying and it's fine to bristle at it. But that does not justify Lively's behavior in the interview -- she went nuclear on what was essentially a faux pas committed by someone conducting an interview in her non-native language. Lively's response was way over the top.
The interviewer was there specifically to discuss the fashion in a period film. So Lively getting upset that the first question was about the film's costuming makes NO SENSE. It was not a general interest interview about the project. It was a fashion reporter who was there to discuss the fashion in the movie. When Lively says "would you ask the male actors about this" and the reporter says "yes" -- that was an honest and true answer. She's there to discuss the fashion in a movie with fantastic fashion (and which was otherwise not a particularly interesting or memorable movie). Lively was totally out of line on that. Also the idea of an actress trying to take a feminist stand against another woman while promoting a Woody Allen movie is ironic at best and offensive at worst. Would Lively have preferred that the interviewer ignore her pregnancy but ask her how she can work with someone who has such a sketchy history in his treatment of women both professionally and in his personal life? Fixating on the "little bump" comment while ignoring that is crazy to me. I don't get being on Lively's side here even if you are very sensitive to how women's bodies are discussed. Allen is a freaking pedophile. |
Well said. Lively congratulated the reporter on her little bump when she wasn't even pregnant. That was a very catty overreaction to what's at worst a non-malicious mild annoyance. |
Yea I think it’s easy for the whole woody Allen thing to get lost in the mix of all this. Several actors have publicly apologized for working with him in the last few years. She never has. For this interview to be from that movie makes the debate over fashion and bump talk even more ridiculous. |

Newsflash!!:
News interviewers are dumb and nasty to all athletes, move stars and people. “Journalists” today are bottom of the barrel bloggers and Twitter low lifes. I love it when professionals tell the stupid interviewer to piss off. Unf now the sponsors write in the contract XYZ minutes with the interviewers after a game or when on the red carpet. But the interviewers still act stupid and mean. |
If she'd apologized later, and said she had this outburst because she was exhausted from pregnancy, we'd be having a totally different conversation. |

Any pregnant woman, who has announced her pregnancy, who is nevertheless offended at being congratulated on her pregnancy (whether or not the word “bump” is used is irrelevant) is not mature enough to be a mother. Hopefully for her children’s sake Lively has grown the hell up since this interview.
As to her opinions on sexism, fashion, rude behavior, and Woody Allen films, I think the obvious explanation is that Blake Lively is simply unintelligent. |
Did the interviewer apologize for her part? If someone crawled out of the woodwork 8 years later with this petty gripe, I’m not sure I’d bother apologizing either. Move on. |
Bump is irrelevant… because you said so? Nope. Doesn’t work that way. I’m more worried about the interviewer who seems like her life has been derailed over one bad interview this long ago than Blake. Has she gotten help to get over this tragedy? |
I do think Lively is pretty dumb. This is often a problem with celebrities-- many got rich and famous because of looks, charisma, or connections. A lot if them are dumb as bricks. But they are also powerful because of their fame and money. It's a bad combo. |
They’re not academics, so they’re not required to be intelligent. They’re paid because they’re good looking, charismatic, and generally good at their craft (acting, singing, designing, whatever..). I mean, some ARE “book smart” on top of having talent in other areas, but if they didn’t have talent, then they’d be teaching lectures on mid century English literature, right? Aside from that, I can’t believe than in 2024, people are still somehow defending the right to comment on women’s bodies just because they’re pregnant. Can you imagine every meeting you went into for your entire pregnancy, that everyone commented on your body instead of listening to what you have to say? I know that some women feel being pregnant is the most interesting thing they’ll ever do, but that’s not everyone. And given how private Lively is when pregnant, she doesn’t seem to be one of those women. The fact that she shot down so many interviewers over it while pregnant means they’re the really stupid ones for continuing to go down that road with her. |
NP. This is the comment I was looking for and someone beat me to it. She's not an intelligent person and she's done, said, and showed plenty with this movie for any reasonable to come to this conclusion. |
Elitist much? Since when does one have to be an academic to be a thoughtful and reasoned person? This isn't the clever argument you think it is. As for her pregnancy, it has been said over and over that she herself talked about it deliberately and enthusiastically. Only a nasty piece of work turns a sincere congratulatory comment on her pregnancy into something it isn't . |
I can’t wait until the trend to be ridiculously over dramatic about normal human interactions (example in bold) goes away. It must be absolutely exhausting to be offended so easily. |
She's the most dangerous type of unintelligent, because she doesn't know it. The smart move dumb people make is when they acknowledge their lack of smarts and surround themselves with smart people to help them. Blake probably thinks she's great. Hopefully her kids have a smart nanny or two. |
You can’t have it both ways. If Blake is so taken aback when someone mentions her bump that she gives such an outrageously mean and rude interview that her fan base is upset and feels misled about her, she needs to rethink having a career in the spotlight. Which judging from her reputation lately is going to be forced on her. |
