In your opinion, how should the elite colleges decide conduct admissions?

I'm against pity admissions.
There are plenty of great schools including state flagships for everyone.
No need to force anyone to any school(aka elite).

If there are truly outstanding low income students, the schools and governments should provide any support to them so that the students can complete fair and square.

Middle class families are disadvantaged compared to rich people
They don't complaint about rich kids going to expensive private schools and fancy tutors and consultants.
All they want is clear rules, transparency and fairness.
Don't make low income people cry babies.

This forum is filled with middle and upper middle class families whining constantly about rich people. Like all the time.
Mention any fancy DC private school here and see how long before some mom starts shitting on the snobby rich people there. Middle class people are the ones who waste excessive time moping about admissions; most low-income students get no where near a college, and if they do, it won't be damn-near the level of an Ivy. Most low income people don't even know what half these liberal arts college and 'elite' privates that are discussed here even are.
What a ridiculous comment.

You probably don't know this, PP, but you are pretty repulsive. You managed to make the poor AND the rich think that in one post. This is quite an achievement and worthy of perverse admiration.

Middle class don't ask for bonus points.
They just don't want minus points.
Do you get it?

This generation of middle class parents and kids have this idea that they have a RIGHT to attend a private university that they can’t afford. That their kids should be able to attend and receive financial aid because they are smart and worked so hard. Private universities are primarily for the rich. Just accept this fact and move on. Send your kids to public universities and stop complaining. It is tiresome to read these rants weekly especially when it is coming from a person with a $250k HHI and (apparently) no significant savings for college.

Middle class is the backbone of the society.
Middle class in the US gets minus points compared to rich and also minus points compared to poor.
Minus points left and right.
This is not acceptable.
We don't ask for plus points, just not minus points.
Is this too much to ask???

Yes, because you already have WAY more advantages than the poor. What you are asking is to take what little they have from them.

First, rich has WAY more advantages but still minus points for middle class (i.e. ALDC)
Middle class works hard and earns the little bit of advantage.
They don't deserve any minus points.

As a member of a NOVA family that just started earning $250, with a high stats kid that was turned down by "elite" schools and is now attending an OOS public, who cares?! If privates simply want undergraduates of the haves and have-nots, with Cal, Michigan and UVA pretending, who am I to argue? Life isn't fair. Thousands of alternatives. Confident kid number 1 will make them all look foolish in the end.

Again privates can do whatever they want, just not on dime of my hard earned middle class money.

Hence, the Merit Act - Merit-Based Educational Reforms and Institutional Transparency

Make sense? Fair enough? Got it?

What HHI percentiles define "middle class," "rich," and "poor"?

Privates still benefit from public support in the form of financial aid, including loan guarantees, research grants, and other benefits like tax exempt status.
