In your opinion, how should the elite colleges decide conduct admissions?

No, and we already know the courts think this is true.

Great, I look forward to telling the NRA what to do from now on. As well as every country club in existence. Since I pay taxes.

Totally logical, right?

Does NRA get any government funding??

JC on a pogo stick they are tax free also. And yes, they benefit from government funding of things, as every single organization and person does at some point. You just want to cherry pick which ones you think colleges benefit from to get that extra 1/4% chance at Harvard. And you're not even right about the pell grants and the research grants!

The stupid around here, it's always turned up to 11.

People are getting two different issues confused: 1) what they think ought to happen, 2) what Sam Alito and his buddies are likely to rule. I wish Timmy Kaine all the luck in the world with his little terminally-stuck-in-committee bill. But if you think *this* SC majority is likely to uphold it, you haven't been paying attention.

Churches and the NRA don't discriminate or treat people unfairly?

Are you for frickin' real? That's even past "on 11".

DP No, they don't. Anyone can join a church or the NRA. They don't treat people unfairly either.

Yes, and those bans have yet to be litigated. The banning states are on thin constitutional ice.

Freedom of association went out the window in 1965.

Religions discriminate based on religion. You can't join the Orthodox Church and not believe in the Nicene Creed. Besides which, federal law does not ban "treat[ing] people unfairly" per se. Federal civil rights law is complex and has loopholes for lots of "unfair" behavior.

I disagree with the idea they don't treat people unfairly. In fact it's not an arguable point. If you think the NRA is more ethical than colleges than I think you are a disgusting person.

No it didn't. Freedom of association forms the backbone of a lot of higher education law - e.g., state schools cannot ban frats because of it.

Not even close to a legal expert, but can someone explain how so many colleges have forcibly disbanded frats then? Frats are constantly on sanction or outright banned on college campuses all the time! Maybe not at auburn but look at almost every liberal arts college today

Just try not associating with a certain group and you’ll find out how much freedom you have, lmao.
