Pathologizing what used to be seen as normal variation, but is now seen (probably correctly, given changes in both the daily school environment and the competitive landscape of college admissions) as blocking the replication of parental social class, results in both.

wow, that is so accurate. although I’m not convinced about it actually blocking replication.
