Are you talking about a girls coach? I feel like you bring this incident up over and over and over on forums on this board. I get that it was an annoying situation, but why are you not letting this go? I have no reason to defend the CYA coach or the valor tournament. It’s just really weird that you keep bringing up this one incident while implying that it happens across the board. Some CYA parents are a piece of work to be sure, but I don’t think what you are referring to is widespread behavior. You need to seriously let it go for your own mental health. It’s kids soccer. |
What are you talking about? There are a ton of incidents on this board talking about how crappy this Valor tournament. Loudoun soccer has every right to play in this tournament without harassment from you or anyone else... like you said it's kids soccer. |
This has me thinking...when my kid was U8, he used to participate in a "crossover" league for "pre-travel" kids. The games were at Edison HS on Sundays. Does this league still exist? |
I didn't file a complaint and pre-travel is not equivalent to a slapped together rec Team. They have "real" coaches and play against other pre-travel teams in their seasons. When my daughter's Then "pre-travel" team entered for the spring all star i declined to participate. |
Didn't even make it a full year with Herndon travel (girls). I'm starting to think all these clubs suck. |
This guy sounds like someone in charge at Valor trying to revive their lousy tournament. They do the same thing over on the travel thread for Valor. A 100 bad posts then all of a sudden one or two that are reciting the Valor propaganda. |
All Rec orgs have the same opportunity to do what Loudoun soccer does. You can either put together a solid all star team to go up against them (and stop putting in your kids and their friends) and compete with some integrity... or in your case you can act like a coward and run away, file a complaint and whine. |
What in the world are you going on about... You are conflating so many different things. |
My DCs play for Loudoun soccer and we have always had a strong presence in tournaments. We have a bigger population that allows for better teams to be placed in all star tournament. In fact, we usually have more than one team going per age group. Its simple to understand that when you have more players to choose from you will have stronger teams. |
Sure. I relayed an experience that involved pre-travel, not rec. I talked to the parents during the game and mentioned that this was a rec tournament. They were surprised by that and said they weren't rec. While not officially travel yet they should have at least played a year up. Winning a 20 min game 12-0 doesn't benefit them either. Not to mention at U8 everyone gets a participation medal and it's supposed to be "fun". But this was a specific scenario. |
| The problem is that these rec tournaments don't tier the teams like they do for travel tournaments. When you enter a travel tournament, you provide some information to the tournament director on the strength of the team and what division you think meets your level. These rec tournaments don't do that especially at the youngest ages...because it's just rec and supposed to be fun and to reward rec kids for their hard work during the season by making them all-stars. The idea behind these tournaments aren't for clubs to see who has the strongest 10-15 rec kids. If a club like Loudoun only enters one team in an age group, that's messed up. |
FPYC literally says in their site that they are creating tiers based on results from ncsl rec (formerly sfl). Poor loudoun is being forced to play in Valor tournament because of their travel ECNL partnership with Valor and now every rec coach afraid of competition is mad at them for being talented. |
Could not disagree more! All stars has always been about picking the most talented players to represent the league and go against other leagues top players. This notion of rewarding the coach’s kids is ridiculous. It use to be used as a tool to recruit for travel but now it’s just a miserable hot weekend wasted. |
Absolutely they do and should! The well-run all star tournaments (FPYC and Herndon) have enough teams and integrity and interest in a quality experience for the re. kids to make sure their tournaments are run properly. FPYC has 2-3 and sometimes 4 skill levels per each year. When our kids play in that tournament, the games are always close. Valor doesn't have anyone participating, so the few teams per age group they can scrounge up are just thrown in together, and there is not good competition at any level. No one wants to win or lose 20-0. |
What team did a CYA coach file a complaint against? In the Valor event last spring? |
