In. 122 CogAT, 120 NNAT. |
My two trouble-makers, both strong test-takers but not other worldly, both got into AAP on first round.
|
Boy or girl? I am curious. If a boy, is he very energetic? |
WTF? What school? My child's scores were higher than that and was rejected. Are you at a low SES school? |
NNAT (result from 1st grade) 131, CoGAT Composite 134, got in at 5:01pm. |
low SES school 146 NNAT 150 COGAT NOT IN...
|
No way. What school? |
DC is currently in 2nd grade applying for 3rd grade APP. |
Didn't get in. Test grades are very improtant but I do think the 2nd grade teachers have a huge say in the process. Last year, my son's teacher gave him a wonderful recommendation to the AAP teacher. I thought it would be an easy acceptance. However, this year's teacher saw him very differently and much more average despite his scores. I took my son to a psychologist and she game him an extremely high score for the WiSCV and I could tell she really thought highly of him..So there is a lot of sibjectiveness to whether someone is considered gifted when on the cusp with scores. Anyway, will.try next year. |
Not in, 132 NNAT and COGAT, poor HOPE which I just don't understand. Teacher has always said my child is kind, eager to learn. Child is also getting Level II. I suspect the HOPE was poor because child is shy and quiet. |

So I really think what really matters is the CogAt and 2nd grade teacher recommendations..I have a feeling appeals are very hard to get unless you personally know someone. |
You’ll probably be flamed for this PP because that’s not an exceptional CogAt. But don’t listen to anyone. We did a WISC for DC who had a 114 and DC got in. This was at a local level IV four years ago. I had another friend whose DC was principal placed into the class for three years in a row. They re-applied to county all three years and finally got in officially on the fourth year just in time for middle school. I know people hate this, but it’s worth applying for the peer grouping benefits, so keep at it. I didn’t find that the curriculum itself was all that innovative. But what kids can learn and accomplish alongside motivated students whose teacher has high expectations for the entire class is a noticeable difference. There is a whole body of research on this. |
Yes! I already emailed our AART teacher to see what his packet looks like because I didn't see any red flags per say! |
Our DD got in with:
COGAT 122 NNAT 131 Iready reading 99 Iready math 86 Haven't seen HOPE. Some of these acceptances really seem all over the place! |
