Six years ago, DD got in with 128 cogat. This year, DS didn't get in with 147 cogat and 144 NNAT. But yes, DD was a little sweet girl, DS is a trouble maker.
Another interesting thing, DD always scored very high in iReady, DS always blew the iReady tests. |
Bizarre. Is he disruptive in the classroom? Can’t imagine what else it might be, PP, bc with that huh of an outlier score, it seems to support his need for advanced academic instruction…. |
+1. Thank you everybody. This board was a real resource during what was a more nerve-wracking process than I’d admit irl. Glad not to be alone. DC in with 99% CoGAT and iready, and mid/upper NNAT. Solid work samples. Haven’t seen HOPE. |
I imagine it’s the trouble-maker piece because frankly the parents of kids who did get into AAP are not going to just be chill with Johnny Troubkemaker disrupting the teacher and other students’ learning, and they know this. The irony of course is that your DS would definitely benefit from the program the most, and it might actually help him to self regulate if he were more challenged academically. But they aren’t likely to take that risk if his in-class track record so far is disruptive. |
DD3 got <90% on every math iReady she's ever taken, yet she's in. She really, really doesn't care about tests, though she did OK on CogAT and NNAT. I was surprised. |
Very similar situation with my DD who got in and DS who didn’t this year. Similar scores, similar personalities. And imho DS really needs AAP. I think it came down to a not so great iReady LA score which he always rushes through. |
I feel like this has to be an error. What would justify keeping out cogat of over 136 honestly? And especially being that you are an AAP teacher yourself. Not right. |
