ECNL forcing Brave & Union Partnership

Lots of the Vienna and McLean kids play other sports together and know each other. And the Union 2008s, 09s, and 11s could use some strengthening on the girls side. The biggest issue is the 2010s — Union is very strong there and Brave has a solid 2010s team. That’ll be a tough combination.

They may actually need Brave's 2010s as many of the current Union players could be considering a return to the Springfield area. Just saying...

Why would anyone leave a strong ECNL team to go back to SYC?

…which is the same reason why most BRAVE players generally would be much better served going to TSJ or SYC GA than to try to bust into Union, esp 06, 07, 10, 09, etc.

Agreed. The new rosters will be huge in the transition year so playing time will be tough to get.

You can only develop so much… Would be nice to have a roster where every player on the bench can get in and make a difference in the game.

Also noticed that neither Union nor Brave have posted ID sessions yet even though we’re just 10 days away from March 1.

Which age group does your DD play for? There really isn’t a reason to specify this though. There isn’t a single ECNL club in the DMV where all of the starters on a team are ‘making a difference’ in the games. You can’t say that and say that the talent pool is diluted in NoVA. But here you are talking about having a stronger bench?

This post makes it sound like you’re either afraid of Brave girls coming in to take starting positions or you want the current bench players gone. Which is it?

No matter what you or anyone else thinks or feels, girls from Brave, FCV, and other places are moving to Union this year and a large number of them will be starters. There will also be second string players as well. When you have the track record that McLean has, these things just happen. Talent knows where to flock.

As stated earlier, if your child isn’t viewed by the club as a top player(top player parents know), then you need to have a plan B just in case. If you sign that offer letter too early and a bunch of talent comes in later, your child could quickly go from starter to coming off the bench.

Sign that offer too late and the coaching staff may think you’ve been out shopping your kid around. The last 10 minutes of the first half + the first 10 minutes of the second half time could be yours depending on what age group is in.

Stop trying to grandfather in starters and let true competition take place.

At this point doesn’t everyone already know that kids are shopping around with all of the changes happening?

Union needs the talent! Good thing it’s going there. #struggling

Union rosters (other than 2010g) are already huge.

RL may become a more reasonable option for more girls across the area.

Given that the area is going from 1 GA team to 3, it doesn’t have to be.

My DD just told me that their coach said ECNL is breaking off from McLean. Whatever that means.

The Hunger Games! Has McLean just been exiled?

Everyone has been assuming that this merger meant McLean would naturally be taking the lead. What if it’s the opposite?

Vienna has been stronger on the girls’ side for a while now. I don’t believe any McLean RL girls teams have a winning record, and Union’s best teams (like the 2010s) are dominated by SYC players.

Remind me about Vienna’s success placing kids in college to play soccer. Thanks. Stop with the nonsense posting.
