W schools are Western, very white, and mostly wealthy. Zoned students often come from DCUM families that can’t afford prestige private schools and feel sensitive about how much they spent on their house. They have a vested interest in perpetuating the idea that W schools are superior to all others in MCPS and that the DCC is essentially any inner city high school in bad 1980s movies.

This is the most perfect description of W schools I’ve ever read. Bravo PP.

What a POS you must be to hear this news and attempt an " I told you I was right"
Wow.
Wj has over three thousands students so it is more likely to happen there than other places. .

I am impressed the student who saw it showed leadership and responsibility and reported it. I can think of a few schools where that part wouldn't have happened.

Will add to this so glad I put my daughter who is zoned for WJ into an all girls school where guns will never likely be an issue.

I have news for you about girls.

The majority of school shootings happen in large public schools by males. This is a fact.

Yes, and some don't. That is also a fact.

The majority of breast cancer cases occur in women, but men also get breast cancer. If you're a man who gets breast cancer, it's irrelevant that the majority of breast cancer cases occur in women.

You don't understand risk management.

I understand that risk management is not risk elimination.

Never said it was eliminated. Risk is rarely eliminated. But it can be managed, and our family is doing what is best for our daughter in an all girls school because we can afford it. Plus she is getting an amazing education in small classes. Win win.

Too bad she has no hope of being a decent, humble person with such a inappropriate braggart for a parent. Lose lose.

Say what you will but many parents are CHOOSING THE PRIVATES AND LEAVING EVEN THE HIGHLY RATED PUBLICS (even "W's") because the privates feel safer and it feels like privates "screen" out dangerous students. Not saying it makes a difference but PP's sentiment is not uncommon. Peace.

It's good to know MCPD is not only responsive and effective in these school situations that MCPS isn't prepared to handle.

Kristin Mink is using this event as an example of how great it is to not have police in schools.

She and Jawando are really disappointing when it comes to school security and safety.

The system actually provides a police "space" in the school with nearby police able to arrive and already be set up. (Not roaming the halls, etc.)
She is indirectly applauding the student who reported seeing the strange behavior, and the swift response made possible by the program.

This is a MCPD issue. MCPD should be handling it. MCPS should not be handling it, because it's a MCPD issue.
